Talking Care: A Caregiving Journey Saint Elizabeth Health Care

Phyllis Russell, a Bereavement Coordinator at Cardinal Funeral Homes and a volunteer with Hospice Toronto, joins Murray Segal to discuss bereavement and the grieving process.

Caregiving, health, and technology are the focus of Episode 12 of Talking Care. Joining Murray Segal for this episode is Mary Lou Ackerman, Vice President of Business Capabilities at Saint Elizabeth Health Care, who specializes in improving home health care delivery through technology.

Mary Lou discusses some of the challenges of "long distance" caregiving, and provides an overview of some of the monitoring devices available which can provide peace of mind for caregivers who are worried about the safety of their loved ones. Some examples include auto alerts for falls, medication reminders, and sensors to alert caregivers that their loved one has been able to get out of bed.

Episode 10 of Talking Care featured Saint Elizabeth Health Care's Glen Chenard, an Advanced Practice Consultant specializing Diabetes & Dialysis.

Glen provided an overview of some common chronic diseases, including Alzheimers, arthritis, and kidney disease, and provided information and resources for families caring for a loved one with a chronic disease.

Dena Maule, Executive Director at Hospice Toronto and Belinda Marchese, Director of Clinical Services at Hospice Toronto, join Murray Segal to talk about coping strategies for people who find themselves caring for their aging or ill parents. 

Episode 8 of Talking Care features Nicole Beben, Vice President of Knowledge & Care Exchange Programs at Saint Elizabeth Health Care.

Government funding for home renovations and car modifications
Online financial tools to help with financial planning
Government compassionate care benefits
Tax credits and other income tax deductions

Larisa MacSween, Manager of Hospice Toronto's Young Carer's Program, and Dena Maule, Executive Director of Hospice Toronto, join Murray Segal to discuss caregiver role reversal and the struggles that children and teenagers face when providing care to their ill or disabled parents.
