    Sunu Band

Hello all, Welcome to the March 2019 episode of AccessAbilities!! We are so excited to bring you an interview with Fernando Albertorio with the Sunu Band (www.sunu.io) "Designed for when you can’t easily use sight or due to a vision impairment, Sunu Band enables you to walk and travel with confidence. Sunu Band is the only smart-band that guides your way around obstacles. It uses sonar or echolocation to detect objects up to 16 feet or 5.5 meters away. Then haptic vibration feedback informs how close (or far away) you are to obstacles. Sunu Band compliments the white cane, guide dog or low vision. This smart-band augments your personal awareness, and reduces accidents to the body, chest, arms and head. Sunu Band is the only intelligent travel aid with more built-in sensors than any other device in the market. Explore and navigate unfamiliar places with Sunu Band’s haptic compass, place finder/explorer and GPS navigation app. Now you can enjoy the personal freedom of always knowing where you are, what’s around you, and how to get there with Sunu Band." Episode 15: Braille On Demand

Transcript: http://bit.ly/2GlML9Q We are so excited to bring you the February 2019 episode of AccessAbilities featuring Todd Frank, Dan Clark, and Keith Paulson of Braille on Demand(choose your podcatcher of choice for listening at linktr.ee/umassatc). If you don't know about Braille on Demand, you should. Braille on Demand is a program through the Iowa Prison Industries (IPI). IPI is the job training program within the Iowa Department of Corrections, providing offenders with the opportunity for Building Brighter Futures. IPI’s work training programs are one of the most successful programs in reducing recidivism – the likelihood that a released offender will return to prison. Since more than 90% of Iowa’s offenders will eventually be released, the training programs of IPI are vital to the safety and security of Iowa. IPI Braille on Demand is a resource for Iowa educators working with sight-impaired school children to have documents quickly transcribed into Braille. IPI is the work arm of the Iowa Department of Corrections, teaching offenders in our work programs skills needed to be successful citizens upon release. We hope you enjoy learning about this innovative, community-driven program! Visit www.iaprisonind.com for more information. As always do not hesitate to get in contact with us at atc@umass.edu.
