Research physicist, especially in superconductivity and semiconductors, chief Scientist for the CSIRO and is now Chief Scientist for Australia. She advises the federal government on science and technology and advocates on behalf of the scientific community . She is recognised as an influential leader in the scientific community and won numerous awards, including the Order of Australia.
