Welcome to Between Diapers and Deadlines, a podcast where two parents and two artists Brett Bean and Julie Bean discuss all the rewards, challenges, complexities, and more of being artists and raising kids. This podcast series is complete with interviews, personal insights, questions answered and more.
In this episode Brett and Julie tackle guilt. Artist guilt, parent guilt, personal guilt, you name it! We all feel it in some way and it can be debilitating at times. Guilt can come from comparisons on social media to feelings of never spending enough time with our kids or conversely on our art - it's a give and take. Brett and Julie not only discuss the different forms guilt can take and where it is derived from but also provide some ideas on how to help manage and hopefully lesson that guilt. They discuss quality time vs. quantity of time, giving yourself permission to not be perfect, making an accomplishment list vs. a to do list, and other ways that they personally have tried to manage guilt.
Mentioned in the podcast is the excellent book by Shondra Rhimes - Year of Yes. Here is a link to it.
