    Professor Sam Nolan

    In this episode Dr Matt Wood (DCAD) interviews Prof Sam Nolan (DCAD) on his career, the development of his own scholarly profile, the work he does supporting and leading change at Durham University and the theme of his recent Inaugural Lecture "Pedagogies of Change".  Transcriptions available here. Biography Prof. Sam Nolan, Ph.D, M.Sci., NTF, PFHEA Sam is Professor of Learning at Teaching and Deputy Director at the Durham Centre for Academic Development based at Durham University in the UK. With 20+ years’ experience as a researcher and teacher, Sam’s career evolved following several successful research roles in the Physics Dept to have a stronger focus on adult education and staff development. Sam’s scholarship interests include widening participation into HE, virtualisation of laboratory learning; augmented reality; the use of active learning pedagogies to enhance student engagement and leadership development. For the national impact of his work, Sam has been awarded National Teaching Fellow status and a Principal Fellowship of the HEA the highest awards in UK Higher Education. Sam is on the editorial board of three journals in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (New Directions in the Teaching of Physical Science, Practice and Evidence of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and Enhancing Teaching and Learning in Higher Education).
