    In this special address, President Nygren took time to directly address allegations regarding misconduct and workplace safety made by Vice President Richelle Montoya. Additionally, President Nygren shared news of the passage of historic water rights settlement legislation for Arizona and New Mexico.

    May is Missing & Murdered Indigenous Relatives Awareness Month

    3. Local Announcements


    Missing Navajo People Reports from the Navajo Police Department this week: 33-year-old Janelle Rose Bennet; 31-year-old Leslie Alan Mitchell.
    Found Navajo People: Sharnae Ashley was reported missing April 28 and has been located and is safe.
    The Shiprock Department of Family Services will host community resource fairs: May 15 at Sheep Springs Chapter House, May 22 Cove Chapter House (9am-3pm).

    This Sunday we celebrate our mothers, day organizer Ann Reeves Jarvis.

    6. A Few of the Week's Accomplishments


    This past Friday we broke ground on the Eastern Diné Bikéyah Complex that will house programs and services in Crownpoint.
    I signed a $4.8 million resolution to rebuild the demolished chapter house at Cameron.
    I approved a $8,500 funding legislation to extend a gas line to a Ganado home.
    Light Up Navajo connects 7 Chinle homes to electricity in ongoing effort.
    Three new mobile broadband towers launched in Little Water, Casamero Lake, and White Rock.

    7. Major Projects I am Working On


    New Mexico State funding support for 54 projects in NM chapters.
    Navajo DOT and Navajo County continue developing their partnership.
    The construction of the Tselani-Cottonwood Senior Center building is nearly complete.
    In the Navajo Nation's water rights efforts, I am expecting Council to introduce legislation within a few days to approve the settlements in Arizona and in the Rio San Jose Basin in New Mexico.

    2024 Dash for Cash Horse Race from Yellow Rock Point, Red Mesa to Teec Nos Post on Saturday.
    I welcomed hundreds of runners as they came together for the Shiprock Marathon on Saturday.

    I will attend Navajo Elder Fest in White Cone, AZ, on Friday.
    Later this week we will celebrate an M.O.U. with Johns Hopkins University.

    On May 15, a Health Expo will be held at the Navajo Nation Museum from 10am to 2pm. Free to the public.
    Applications are now available for the 2024 Annual Youth Hunt until June 14 (www.nndfw.org)
    The filing deadline for the 2024 Chapter Elections is Wednesday, May 8 (https://navajoelections.navajo-nsn.gov)
    Missing Navajo People: 27-year-old Twilena Rose Begay; 43-year-old Celena Anne Manygoats.

    13-year-old Cari Lightner was struck by a drunk driver in 1980 leading to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

    6. A Few of the Week's Accomplishments


    I signed a $864,000 intergovernmental agreement with the New Mexico Indian Affairs Department for the Navajo Code Talker Museum.
    I signed a $425,000 service contract between NDOT and a Navajo contractor for N8073 near Pinon, AZ.
    I signed a proclamation recognizing Teacher Appreciation Week May 6 through May 10.
    I signed a $5 million grant agreement with Navajo Nation Oil & Gas Co. to bring a convenience store to Lupton, AZ.

    7. Major Projects I am Working On


    In the ongoing Pinyon Plains mining issue, I signed a resolution to urge U.S. leadership to halt uranium ore transport across Navajo Nation lands.
    Water Projects: I signed legislation approving $2.5 million in water line extensions for Rock Point, Rough Rock, and Kin Dah Lichii families.
    Train derailment in Lupton on Friday, April 26.
    In supporting chapters, I approved $4.8 million from the Síhásin Fund to rebuild the demolished Cameron Chapter House.

    28 Navajo students are graduating from San Juan College and NTU's PNM Navajo Nation Workforce Scholarship program.
    We celebrated the San Tan Charter's boys basketball 2A championship team at the office.
    The 2024-2025 Miss Indian World stopped by the Office of the President and Vice President.

    9. Upcoming Events in the Coming Week


    Groundbreaking for the office building in Crownpoint, N.M.
    This Saturday is the 41st Shiprock Marathon and Dash-4-Cash Horse Race.
    On Monday, I will meet the New Mexico Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jamison Herrera.
    I will be in Washington, D.C. for federal meetings and provide testimony to Congress.

    Missing Navajo People: 32-year-old Ryan Tom, 31-year-old Jarvis Saltwater Jr.

    Navajo Nation closes on the acquisition of Goulding's Lodge and properties.
    I signed a proclamation for Navajo Nation Child Abuse Prevention Month alongside prevention advocates.
    A Navajo woman warrior veteran received the keys to her new home in Jeddito, Arizona.

    6. Major Projects I am Working On


    Working with New Mexico DOT Cabinet Secretary Ricky Serna to coordinate NM road projects.
    Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency Executive Director Stephen Etsitty visited the Pinyon Plain Uranium Mine to inform owners of new and proposed regulations around hauling.

    Navajo Nation Welcome Baby Celebration hosted by the Office of the First Lady, with help from First Things First of AZ, the Navajo Breastfeeding Coalition, and many other sponsors.
    Meet and Greet with Navajo Prep Boys and Girls State Basketball Championship teams.

    Join me tomorrow at Window Rock High School for the Days of Coding event to promote computer programming.
    This weekend will be the Gathering of Nations events in Albuquerque, N.M.
