Reminding You Why You Love Football - The MUNDIAL Podcast
Reminding You Why You Love Football is a weekly football podcast from MUNDIAL that drops its shoulder past the 1% of the game that dominates the news cycle and instead disappears between the cracks to talk about the things that really matter…. Old kits, cult heroes, terrific haircuts, non league weirdness, long range screamers, unsavoury red cards and crisps. On paper, it shouldn’t work. But then again, podcasts are very rarely executed on paper, are they? Forget all the spin and flannel and take a trip with 4 lads who remind you why you love football. Like all the best podcasts, the creators don’t take themselves too seriously, and the topic only provides the blank canvas for the rich tapestry of storytelling among friends. The chat strays, as is should, and you get a little window into 4 pals enjoying each others company - and life- and it could be in a pub or cafe. For this is what football should be. It’s been said before but it doesn’t make it any less true- this is the antidote to dreary obsession with XG and VAR. It has romance etched in its soul. I always leave listening to the latest episode until I’m commuting to the office for work- acting as an aural aesthetic for the upcoming soul surgery for whatever stage of late capitalism we find ourselves in now. You get a look back at cult heroes, footballers you might never have heard of, careers you remember, things that happen when you’re at the match, chance encounters with footballers, real life, epic goals, Morrissey impressions, being at football with your nearest and dearest, memories. It all swirls together and it makes you feel good. And yes yes, we support these now. Barry Crossan Reds Independent
