    106: Vegans Dating, Dating Vegans

    Episode 106 contains four interviews focused around the subject of dating as a vegan. Recorded on Valentine's Day, Derek is without a co-host, and the show begins with his poetic monologue on finding love as a vegan. Derek recorded the first interview with Anne Dinshah at the 2012 Vegan Spirituality Retreat in Philadelphia. Anne is the daughter of American Vegan Society founders Jay and Freya Dinshah, and the author of Dating Vegans. The second interview is Ian MacDonald, a BBC-trained radio producer and author of The Vegan Option radio show and blog. He is hosting a kickstarter project to raise money to fund a 15-part audio series called Vegetarianism: The Story so Far - A Radio History. Ian gives us the low down on the vegan dating scene in London. We also honor the recent passing of Rynn Berry, who was a NYC based vegan historian. The third interview is with Ben Shaberman, the author of The Vegan Monologues. Ben has a new book that he is shopping around to publishers called Jerry's Vegan Women. The book features short fictional stories centered on relationships and influences that various women have on the protagonist. Ben narrates a portion of the book at the end of the podcast. The final interview is with Leigh-Chantelle, who runs Vivalavegan.net, a web site that provides easy-to-prepare recipes, blogs, articles, podcasts, interactive forum, informative and how-to videos, interviews with inspiring vegans, vegan mentoring e-books, print books and more.     104: Betty Goes Vegan & Gretchen Gets Kind

    Derek & Lo Vee interview vegan authors Gretchen Primack and Dan and Annie Shannon at the 2013 Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary July Jamboree. Gretchen Primack is the author of Kind, a book of poetry that confronts animal issues artistically and metaphorically. She also co-authored The Lucky Ones, the story of Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary's co-founder Jenny Brown. Significantly, both of these interviews were conducted at the sanctuary's July Jamboree, an annual fund raising event. The Shannons have brought Betty Crocker into the age of compassion with their cookbook Betty Goes Vegan. They live in Brooklyn and write a kick-ass food blog on their Meet the Shannons website.     103: Sid Garza-Hillman drops a Health Manifesto

Sid is a man with a cowboy hat so large he needs two last names. His book "Approaching the Natural: A Health Manifesto" is a well written, pocket sized guide to living a more natural life and the connection to eating clean and healthy. Sid is currently working as the Staff Nutritionist and Programs Director at the Mendocino Center for Living Well located at the Stanford Inn Eco-resort in Mendocino, California.     101: We Animals photographer Jo-Anne McArthur

    Derek & Lo Vee interview animal rights photographer Jo-Anne McArthur, who is known for her project We Animals in which she documents, through photography, animals in the human environment who are being used for food, clothing, research, experimentation, work, entertainment, slavery and companionship. Her photos give us a view into their world that is often shocking not because she attempts to show horrific scenes of violence, but rather because she shows the day to day existense of the beings we share the world with. The photos are artistic and taken from perspectives that betray our typical human-centric and speciest gaze. The We Animals project has opened up new opportunities for Jo-Anne, and she is currently the subject of a documentary film by Liz Marshall called The Ghosts in Our Machine. "The film follows Jo-Anne over the course of a year as she photographs several animal stories in parts of Canada, the U.S. and in Europe.     100: NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 100th Episode Spectacular

    On March 2nd and 3rd thousands of NYC Vegetarians, Vegans, and the Veg-curious came out to the NYC Vegetarian Food Festivalto sample, purchase, and learn about vegan food and lifestyle. Add in some animal rights organizations and farmed animal sanctuaries, the NYC Veg Food Fest is sure to be a hot spot for our favorite vegan super stars (every vegan is a super star to us)! That means, that in this spectacular 100th episode of Vegan Radio we hit the mother-load on interviews!! First we hear the story behind the festival from co-creator/coordinator Nira Poliwoda followed by Eddie Garza of Mercy for Animals, the benefactors of the festival's official after party. Next we feature Vegan Radio's favorite subject, farm animal sanctuaries! We hear from Gene Baur of Farm Sanctuary again and find out what he's been up to since the last episode.     99: NYC Walk For Animals with Gene Baur & Jane Velez-Mitchell

    We got 99 shows and this is one. Lo Vee and Derek check out the 2012 NYC Farm Sanctuary Walk For Farm Animals. Over 700 New Yorkers showed up to show support and raised over $70,000 for Farm Sanctuary. We feature interviews with sanctuary co-founder Gene Baur & host of CNN's Issues With Jane Velez-Mitchell (you guessed it...) Jane Velez-Mitchell! We also feature the talks that each of these inspiring vegan activists gave. Derek was also lucky enough to catch up with Katie Pryor - event organizer and Vegan Outreach coordinator for NYC - for a nice wrap-up interview. Derek was also event photographer and yoga teacher, while Lo Vee donned a cute fuzzy pink pig costume and worked the Blossom Du Jour table.
