Recently US Sen. Tim Scott made news by saying "America is not a racist country". After an entire year of protests based around race and law enforcement. The previous administration painted as the face of racism and division. With an executive order immediately put in place to specifically protect Asians and Pacific Islanders from violence and discrimination. Is this a question of how we see America or what we choose not to see?

In the same week we said goodbye to Rapper/Actor/Father Earl "DMX" Simmons we lost Bad Boy's Black Rob & Shock G of Digital Underground. There was a slight sense of justice as a guilty verdict came down for former police officer Derek Chauvin and the killing of George Floyd, only to be eclipsed my multiple officer involved shootings of Black men & women including 16 year old Ma'Khia Bryant hours after the verdict. If we're acknowledging that we're dealing with the same issues we have to be real about addressing the same flawed attempts at solutions. Listen/Share/Subscribe/Comment and Say Something!!!

It's easy to sit back and speak of today's youth critiquing them for what they aren't doing. Words like entitled & sensitive get thrown around, are they more emotional or is this evolution? Between music, movies, social media and society they're not operating from the same playbook as previous generations. As we celebrate the life of Earl "DMX" Simmons, his story is full of great highs in music but also with adversity and controversy. Not only childhood but the trauma we experience as an adult directly effects our relationships, coping mechanisms and daily behavior. Constant imagery of police brutality and community violence along with what we personally go through shapes us a little more each day. We may not all end up with a platinum selling recording career, but we do all have a song. If it's one of simply trauma or of healing will be up to us. In the Marvel movie "Endgame", half of the population disappeared after the snap of a finger to return back to "normal" after 5 years. Covid-19 was that snap for our society. As the world begins to open back up, many of us are returning from obscurity to figure out how to settle back into school, work, life and find that balance. Meanwhile, the world has continued spinning, people have been affected, the economy has shifted, sensitivities have shifted and there's a new normal for us to figure out. America is all about narratives. Black mothers the face of welfare, Latinos the face of immigration, Black males the face of crime, Muslims the face of terrorism, etc. As reports increase on attacks against members of the Asian community, the terrible mass shooting in Georgia happened.
