Manchester Arena Bombing - Inspiration through adversity

On 22nd May 2017, an Islamist extremist suicide bomber detonated a homemade bomb as people were leaving the Manchester Arena following a concert by Ariana Grande. Twenty-three people died, including the attacker, and more than 800 were wounded - some of them children. Several hundred more suffered psychological trauma.  In March 2020, the bomber’s brother, Hashem Abedi, was found guilty of 22 counts of murder in relation to the attack. The incident was the deadliest terrorist attack and the first suicide bombing in the United Kingdom since the 7 July 2005 London bombings. One of the victims, Martyn Hett, died at the age of 29. Martyn had worked in public relations and he was also a former winner of TV Show Come Dine With Me. In this episode, we are joined by Martyn’s mum Figen Murray, who has spearheaded the campaign for Martyn’s law – named after her son, which was set to be introduced in an effort to tighten security at public venues. On September 7th 2020, a public enquiry started into the circumstances of the Manchester Arena Bombing, the background to the attack and the emergency response. We caught up with Figen - Socially distanced over Zoom  What Figen has had to endure, overcome and how she has moved her own life forward after losing Martyn truly is inspirational. ►Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to GIVE SOCIAL https://www.givesocial.co.uk/YouTube ► SUBSCRIBE to the Podcast NOW https://www.givesocial.co.uk/podfollow ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ► Our Links: Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/GiveSocial Twitter ► https://twitter.com/WeAreGiveSocial Instagram ► https://www.givesocial.co.uk/insta Web ► http://www.Givesocial.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
