Locked On Heat POSTCAST: Herro, Heat Come Back From Down 8 Pts in the 4th, Beat T'Wolves 95-94

Herro, Heat Come Back From Down 8 Pts in the 4th, Beat T'Wolves 95-94 Nikola Jovic hit the tying layup and go-ahead foul shot with :07 left to life the Heat over the Minnesota Timberwolves 95-94 and snap their three-game losing streak. Jovic- who had 15 points and seven rebounds in his first game off the bench this season- cut from mid court toward the Heat basket and beat his man just enough to open up a beautiful feed from Duncan Robinson on an equally inbounds beautiful play designed by Erik Spoelstra. Jovic then went to the line to give the Heat their first lead since they were up 63-61 in the 3rd quarter. Mike Conley’s 3-pointer at the buzzer was short for the Timberwolves, whose three-game winning streak ended in the face of Miami’s nonstop defensive pressure. Jaden McDaniels had given the Wolves the lead with a putback of Conley's miss with :09 left. The refs initially called an and-one foul on Miami’s Haywood Highsmith, but Spo challenged the call and it was overturned to keep it a two-point game. Tyler Herro had 26 points and six assists to lead the Heat. It was his 5th straight game with 25+ points. Former T’Wolves Star Kevin Love made his season debut for Miami, scoring six points and adding six boards and two steals in just 13 minutes. Jaime Jacques Jr (illness) returned from a three-game absence to score seven straight points late in the 3rd to end Miami’s 6:00+ scoreless run. Spoelstra went deep tonight, with eleven Heat players seeing action, and ten of them scoring. Miami was without star Jimmy Butler, who sat out with the sprained right ankle he suffered in Friday’s loss at Denver. Anthony Edwards scored 22 points on just 8-for-24 shooting (3-13 from 3) for the Wolves, who trailed by 12 points early after a 3-for-15 start from 3-point land. Julius Randle added 16 pts on 6-16 shooting. The Heat turned the ball over 23 times, 11 more than their season average. But Miami’s defense was relentless, with 14 steals and nine blocks, all season highs. That pressure defense not only contained Edwards and shut down the Wolves, it led to 26 fast break points for Miami, a season-high.

Locked On Heat POSTCAST: Butler Injured, Heat Outgunned 135-122 By Red-Hot Denver Nuggets on Road

Heat Outshot by Nuggets, fall 135-122 for 4th loss in five games Jimmy Butler injures ankle in first quarter (left and did not return) Here’s everything you need to know about Friday night in Denver for the Heat… Miami scored 27 points in the first quarter- and ended up down 13 points at the end of the quarter. They also lost star Jimmy Butler to an injury just over 7:00 into the game. Miami shot 49%- a red-hot 47% from 3- and got badly outshot by an unconscious Denver team that scorched the nets at 61%/51%. They even played Denver completely even over the final three quarters without Butler, losing by that same 13-point margin. How hot was Denver? The Nuggets jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the 1st 4:00 on their way to a 40-point in the first quarter on 14 of 20 shooting. Tyler Herro played another great game for Miami, leading the Heat with 24 points and 11 assists. Nikola Jokic had 30 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds for the Nuggets. It was the Joker’s third straight triple-double and his fifth of the year so far. He leads the NBA. Jamal Murray had 28 points in his first game back after missing the past three games in the NBA’s concussion protocol. The Heat fought back throughout the game, getting close, but they never led and trailed by as many as 26 points. This loss was Miami’s fourth in the last five games. The Nuggets outscored the Heat 15-4 in the opening 3:03 of the third quarter, continuing Miami’s season-long post-halftime struggles. Denver led by 11 at the half.
