One hundred episodes and nearly two years ago, we took a run at one of the strangest local legends that we have ever come across, but we were new! It was our very first episode! While we quickly found our feet in the podcasting waters, that first attempt has always irked us, so we decided to take another crack at it! Join us as we take a true deep dive into the Wolf Girl of Devil’s River and the full deck of bizarre occurrences surrounding the area, specifically Espantosa Lake. 
 
In the early 1830s, John Dent and his new wife fled Georgia after murdering the father of his lover. Soon after settling in the Devil’s River area of Texas, a truly strange series of events culminated in tragedy and the source point for one of the state’s most enduring legends. Is this a true feral child case? Some sort of wolf/girl hybrid? Are the stories simply that? Stories? Let’s get to the bottom of it!

This week, we’re exploring a classic bit of American folklore. From 1817 to 1821, the Bell family of Red River, Tennessee experienced one of the most bizarre and terrifying stints of poltergeist activity ever recorded. In fact, it is generally agreed upon that this story is the source point for a large portion of the tropes that we associate with poltergeists to this day. From unexplained noises and missing household items to violent physical attacks that ultimately led to the first US death to ever be attributed to a paranormal force.
