    This week, we're discussing the2011 Tohoku Earthquake and subsequent nuclear disaster that would occur at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. A magnitude 9 earthquake would strike the island nation, bringing with it tsunami of up to 133 feet in height and washing away entire towns. These very same waves would over wash the protective barriers at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant and would lead to the eventual meltdown and release of radioactive material into the environment.

    This week, we're discussing the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and resulting environmental impacts this disaster caused. Over 4 million barrels of oil would leak over nearly 90 days, covering over 1,000 miles of gulf coastline. Even worse, while the cleanup was successful, a vast majority of the heroes who helped clean up after the oil reached the shores suffer detrimental health effects to this very day.
