    Guest info:Georgia Fort is a two-time Emmy nominated Media Producer and Television Correspondent who is changing the narrative through visual stories about race & culture that build equity. Her reporting has been published on CNN, ABC, NBC, Fox and CBS affiliates. Most recently she produced a short documentary “George Floyd: It Happened Here”, and co-directed and edited the award-winning documentary “Rondo: Beyond the Pavement” which is now available on Amazon Prime. The Minnesota native has over a decade of broadcast experience that spans from public radio government television to national commercial television broadcasting. Georgia graduated from the University of St. Thomas where she advocated for student parents and diversity inclusion. She has three daughters and is married to boxing gym owner and professional boxer, Cerresso Fort.

    In this week's episode, we discuss the facts surrounding Black history month and the black experience.  We were joined this week by Dr. Jo Von McCalester, PhD.  Together with Dr. McCalester we explored the significance of why Black history month is in February (We'll give you a hint, it ain't because its the shortest month!), as well as the significance of the HBCU experience, the importance of African American Venacular English, the connection of knowledge of self and how important this realization is for how you show up in the world.     Guest info: Dr. McCalister is a lecturer in the Political Science Department and Research Associate for the John and Eula Mae Cleveland Endowed Chair in the Afro American Studies Department at Howard University. A triple alum of Howard University, she received her BA in Political Science in 2005, A Master of Art of Teaching in 2009, and her PhD in Political Science in 2015. She also holds a Masters in African American and African Studies from with a concentration in Black Political Organization and Movement from Ohio State Univeristy. Currently, she's associate editor for A Life of The Mind, Essays in Honor of Andrew Billingsley, PhD, an edited volume honoring the contributions of sociologist and former Morgan State University president, Andrew Billingsley.
