    Third-Party Mediation and Peace w/ Giuseppe De Palo

    In the fifth episode of Peace in a Pod, we sit down with the Ombudsman for the United Nations Funds and Programmes, Mr. Giuseppe De Palo. Giuseppe helps prevent and resolve work disputes within a variety of UN bodies. He talks to us about Third-Party Mediation and his work in it. Third-party mediation is where an external, neutral mediator is appointed mutually by disputing parties. The idea here is that a third-party will help find common ground and options for a peaceable settlement.     Human Trafficking and Peace

    In this episode of Peace in a Pod, we discuss human trafficking and modern slavery in the US-Mexican border. In this episode, we introduce you to Fernanda, a Communications Team member at the Peacebuilding Initiative. Fernanda interviews Dr. Melissa Torres, Assistant Professor and Director of Human Trafficking Research at the Baylor College of Medicine, and Vice-President of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF). Through this conversation, Fernanda hopes to explore the relationship between migration, nationality, and human trafficking in the Mexican-American context.     Europe and Peace

    In this episode of Peace in a Pod, we have a conversation with two masters’ researchers at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, Arthur Lusenti and Zachary Alvarado about Europe and Peace. When we speak of Europe and Peace in contemporary security politics, we often look at how Europe acts abroad and how its actions affect peace around the world. However, inreasingly, Europe is once again at the centre of a variety of threats, both from within and from without. These threats affect Europe’s own perception of peace, of itself, and as a result, influence its actions abroad. This episode is based on a research project done in partnership with the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform titled, 'Conceptions of Peace and Security in Contemporary Europe.'     Race and Peace

    In this episode of Peace in a Pod, we engage the topic of racial inequality and injustice in our societies. The murder of George Floyd has brought to attention the endemic nature of systemic racism around the globe. In this episode, Keshav is joined by guest interviewer Noura Tan, Co-Founder and Deputy Director of the Peacebuilding Initiative. Noura speaks with Kennedy Mmasi, the president of the Afrique Association and Kathryn Gichini an alumnus of IHEID currently working for peacebuilding research institute in Geneva.
