    Boys In The Hood : Safeguarding Our Young Black Boys

    In light of recent events it was needed to open a discussion about how through mentoring , education and holistic approaches we can help heal , grow and nurture our young Black Boys. Today's discussion with Cheryl explores the UK initiatives we have in place for mentoring and how we can raise our children with the highest esteem through literature and positive role models.  The podcast is informal and more like two mums trying to navigate systematic racism and social micro aggressions - there are no answers just suggestions. We hope you take this discussion with a heart full of good and appreciate the transparency in the worry of raising young black and mixed raced boys.

    Diversity in the UK Workplace

    This is a special podcast all about championing and building up mentees and colleagues who are classed as Ethnic Minorities. Our discussion is based around the proactive work of business resource groups aimed at creating molecular support groups who can act as independent auditing houses for BAME communities for inhouse resource & HR divisions. We touch on lightly the pressure of being the "token black person" carrying the weight of answering on behalf of a majority and having the BRAVE to flag racial injustices and cultural stigmatism within Corporate. Both of my speakers hold high positions in major London businesses but not accountable for how their onboarding , ear bending and progression of race equality plays out in their organisations. However they are not representatives and their views are neither partisan or against - they speak as individual colleagues who have experienced and continue to do every day a unique perspective of what Diversity and Inclusion means to them .  Lets supportive Everyone , C-suite- Exec Office , Board, HR , Employees and Unions to work together to ensure our next generation are treated equal and without predjudice.

We explore alot of themes in the mental health realm including championing our Black men with their silenced struggles.

    Single Parent Stigma

    Monica and I dig deep into why being a solo hero is so stigmatised.  We explore some of the below topics: Why is it assumed all black men cheat ? Why do we begrudge "baby mothers" with different dads Why is it okay to be a "Gallas" Marital abandonment  I would hope us scratching the surface on single parenthood will bare compassion and a curiosity to listen to our individual stories as like tapestry's they are all very unique.  Our stories couldn't measure on a Richter scale how far apart they lie , one a blended family working in unison and the other abandoned by her husband during pregnancy without closure. Both share the growing pains of motherhood alone but equally prevail strength and prove a mothers love beyond anything is powerful and inspiring.

    Mental Health in the Black Community (PT1)

    Cheryl Carty & I open the first of the series conversations about Mental Health in celebration of raising awareness for Black History Month. All views expressed are personal and do not reflect any companies we have/ currently work for. We hope that by starting a dialogue on these subject matters will encourage others to start speaking and normalise mental health in our community. With Covid , Furlow and BLM movement there is a lot of anxiety and pressure for people of diversity and we acknowledge , understand and sympahtise .  Mental Health is commonly misunderstood , we can re write the narrative and it starts with sharing our experiences in order to normalise the "un normal". Trauma , Triggers and PTSD are common disorders which are often delayed in response. The sooner we address displacement the sooner we can start to heal .
