To instill in people a true understanding of what this country COULD be, if the right people were fighting for it, and what it WILL be if they don’t. It’s a political podcast yes, but more than that, it’s a podcast about America’s potential, where one passionate, and slightly mouthy, immigrant attempts to motivate the country to become what it promised to be but, so far, has yet to become.     What is Real Right Now: A Conversation with David Rothkopf

    Instead of having a meltdown and getting mired in every potential crisis coming from the next administration, we have to see the big picture while taking action at the local level. Ask yourself: What is real right now, and what can we do about it? That while Trump and his henchmen can do vast amounts of damage to our institutions, our way of life, and our rule of law - damage we must be on guard for and fight against - as we work to restore American democracy one of the most important things to acknowledge is that it’s always been flawed. That we have always favored the select few over the many and that, in itself, must change. That this new kleptocratic, oligarchic government will only highlight what has always been true, that this country was created to favor an American aristocracy, but with good leadership and proper messaging, we can wrestle the power back with the majority of the nation behind us. There is no doubt the monsters will overreach, we simply must make be sure their hubris is their downfall.     What’s Next America?

    I still can’t exactly explain what happened with the 2024 election, but it does appear as if Trump and his dangerous, extremist allies have won. I’m a big believer in our institutions, but I also spent the past week trying to figure out how they could have all failed us so badly. I understand the sentiment to want to disengage. To find someone to blame. To point fingers and to close the door on working with anyone who isn’t in your immediate group, because you feel as if they’re the only people you can trust. But this idea that organization and community and goodness can’t stand up to any of this is fundamentally untrue. In many ways, America as we knew it might be over, but the ideas of democracy, human rights, civil rights, and knowing right from wrong, are not over, and if we want any sort of future, we can’t lay down now. That is exactly what these wanna-be authoritarians want us to do. And as far as I’m concerned, they don’t get anything they want. The mainstream media has let us down, so we need to support those doing independent work.
