However, if we are completely truthful, the biggest challenge we face is believing we can do it – believing in our ability to create massive change. But everyone knows you can’t achieve anything significant without guts, determination, and of course, the courage to keep driving towards the goal, regardless of how hard the journey is! Uncommon Courage will feature global conversations determined to contribute to creating a better future for all life on earth. Ideas, solutions, arguments and laughs - it’ll all be part of the journey. It is time for that which is uncommon to become common.

The Know Show – we are baking in Asia’s heatwave!

The Know Show – we are baking in Asia’s heatwave!

Southeast Asia, the Indian sub-continent, and parts of Africa are sitting in the eye of an extreme heatwave, seeing temperatures five to 10 degrees Celsius above normal, and it’s predicted to last until June. That means no relief is on the horizon for the millions of people being impacted, and reports of deaths from heat stroke are growing by the day.
It is challenging for the wealthy countries in the North to comprehend how devastating this heatwave is, with most of the population living without air-conditioning and failing electricity grids. How did we get here? Why didn’t we prepare? Why are governments across the world ignoring the evidence before our eyes? And how can we make the Global South more resilient to these climate impacts? Because if we don’t address this, we will see mass migration and that will be disastrous for our fragile planet, on multiple levels.

To help us discuss this and the news going on around the world, we are delighted to welcome Neil Mann, founder of Future Horizon and he is a futurist, advisor, CTO, consultant, and trainer. Neil helps clients uncover what's next on the digital frontier for business, delivering strategic foresight on emerging technologies. As his business tagline suggests: Think bold. Think broad. Think beyond.

The Know Show is a Livestream held every fortnight on Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Tim Wade and Joe Augustin, and at least one special guest, review the news that’s getting everyone’s attention, as well as perhaps what requires our attention. We’ll talk about what it means to us, the world and we hope to inspire great conversations on the news that matters in the world today.

The Know Show is based on Andrea T Edwards Weekend Reads, which are published every Saturday on andreatedwards.com, and covers the planetary crisis, topical moments in the world, global politics and war, business and technology, social issues, and passion/humour/history. Join us.

The Know Show – black, white and grey, the importance of nuance

The Know Show – black, white and grey, the importance of nuance

When times get complicated, simple answers and solutions aren’t what’s going to cut it, even though we are bombarded with messages telling us otherwise. The growing threat of all-out-war, the calamities in our environment, and the divisions in our societies are all deeply complicated issues that require our attention and a deep appreciation for nuance.
In our fast-paced, information-dense world, you don’t have to look far to see people quickly leaping to conclusions, shouting opinions from whichever side gained their loyalty, but are they right? Equally, are we all looking at these complicated issues from every angle? Is there something being said in the grey zone that is important for us to know and understand? Considering the dark times we are in, isn’t it worth us going the extra mile to appreciate the nuance of the biggest issue we face today? We think so and are looking forward to digging into this theme.

To help us discuss this and the news going on around the world, we are delighted to welcome Cheryl Benadie onto the show. Cheryl is author of The Wholeness Guide, and she is a career development consultant, employability specialist, a student wellness facilitator, financial literacy educator, and an inspirational keynote speaker.  Bringing the heart and mind together in her teachings, Cheryl will be a great addition to the conversation.

The Know Show – war, will it ever end? Because it must

The Know Show – war, will it ever end? Because it must

It’s been a harrowing week for war, with aid workers at World Central Kitchen killed by Israeli rockets in Palestine, which is ramping up pressure on the Israel Government to call an immediate ceasefire. Equally, Iran now faces a dilemma following the Israeli attack on its embassy in Syria, which killed two Iranian generals and five military advisers at its embassy compound in Damascus. How will Iran respond? Because it must respond, or it will look weak.
Russia continues to make progress in its war on Ukraine, with NATO now deliberating a plan for long term structured support for Ukraine, but war expanding across Europe is a threat, especially when we hear the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, posted on social media about an unspecified threat to his country, which has been reported as we will go to war with Kosovo at a time of our choosing. War escalation, more brutality, ecosystem destruction, biosphere breakdown….

It’s a complicated time to be alive, resulting in mental health challenges becoming a greater issue all over the world, so what can we do, and how can we deal with all of this? To help us discuss this and the news going on around the world, we are delighted to welcome Dr. Alka Chadha, who is a practicing physician, yoga and meditation teacher, an NLP practitioner, a 'Heal Your Life' facilitator, an ICF certified coach, keynote speaker, coach, AND she also runs training workshops like 'Inner Journey' which incorporates breathwork, meditation, and yoga. What a perfect guest for this week’s topic!

The Know Show – our longevity obsession, does it make sense?

The Know Show – our longevity obsession, does it make sense?

A few weeks ago, we discussed the story of Bryan Johnson, a 46-year-old tech bro who cashed out a few years ago and now spends all his time trying not to die. Today he is suffering from long Covid, however he’s part of a bigger story about an obsession to work out how to live longer and healthier lives.
At the centre is the longevity industry – a multi-billion-dollar industry – and it’s goal is to target aging at the cellular or molecular level, as well as promoting healthy aging and improving our quality of life. The industry consists of several distinct segments, including Gero science, Biomedicine, AgeTech, and Finance, however, do we really need people living longer? And if we do live longer, what will that look like when facing climate breakdown? Essentially, are we thinking this through?

To help us dig in, we’re so happy to welcome Dr. Zobaida Akhter from Bangladesh, who has a mission to empower people so they can value the importance of gender equity and equality in all spheres of life. A true commitment to equality and equity helps us to create a sustainable and gender-balanced society, where every person is treated fairly. Dr. Zobaida works in gender and culture in the workplace, along with media training through gender neutral language and gestures. It will be amazing to hear her point of view.

The Know Show – it’s all getting a bit cray cray

The Know Show – it’s all getting a bit cray cray

Did you hear Donald Trump say: “Right now, a number of state laws allow a baby to be born from his or her mother’s womb in the ninth month. It is wrong. It has to change.” Cray cray right? And yes, he really did say it. In Missouri, if you’re pregnant you can’t get divorced – women’s rights are really progressing over there – not to mention we had the whole IVF debacle which is sending people into a tail spin; and of course, adding to the “what will he do next” campaign, Donald Trump launched his gold sneakers, which comes with a whole host of further craziness.
Beyond America: research has shown that every single placenta tested in a research study had microplastics in it: the situation in Ukraine is horrendous and we now know 31,000 troops have been killed while the US continues to dither on proving support; Mexico, one of the world’s most populous cities, could run out of water within months; and billionaires are not only building bunkers to escape when it all collapses, but now they’re adding flammable moats to keep the rest of us out.

No wonder everyone is a bit strung-out at the moment. Everywhere you look, something crazy is going on. How do we calm everything down and come back together?

To help us dig in, we’re thrilled to welcome Chantelle Botha, affectionately known as "The Catalyst" to the show. Chantelle is a well-known expert in identity-driven purpose and is celebrated for her unique ability to instigate change among her clients. A professional speaker, life coach, career coach and influencer, she is all about helping her clients embrace vision, identity and purpose.

The Know Show – where is all the love?

The Know Show – where is all the love?

We celebrated Valentine’s Day this week and messages of love are flooding our social media channels, which is always a nice balm for the soul. However, then you turn on the news and see the shooting in Kansas City during the Super Bowl celebrations, the planned attack on Rafah still going ahead, X taking payment from terrorist organizations, the US reconsidering its relationship with South Africa after taking Israel to the ICJ for genocide, and of course, Trump threatening NATO members if they don’t pay up…. It’s hard to find the love.
António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, released an article on LinkedIn this week, and it’s a call for peace. Peace in the world. Peace within communities. Peace with justice. Peace with nature. It’s also a call to love and a call to action, for the greater good of all life on earth, and yet our leaders continue to move in the other direction. War is growing, but how can we continue to fight wars today, when the stability and resilience of the earth system is hanging in the balance? Our biosphere is on it’s knees, and yet war and it’s devastation is growing.

We’ve got to turn this all around! That’s just a flavour of some of the news we’ll discuss, so do come and join us and you’ll be up to date with all the major news happening in our world.

To help us dig in, we’re thrilled to have the Culture Catalyst, Scott Harrison join us this week. He’s an ICF performance coach, a leadership, sales and recruitment trainer, mentor, host of the Culture Catalyst Podcast and a professional speaker. We are looking forward to hearing his thoughts.
