Liverpool take on Real Madrid as Napoli spoil Ranieri’s return

Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle join Jimbo for a look ahead to matchday five in the Champions League - and a look back on the return to domestic action across Europe. All eyes on Anfield on Wednesday night as Real Madrid take on old friends Liverpool - having got right back into things in the La Liga title race with their commanding 3-0 win over Leganes which leaves them just four points behind leaders Barcelona with a game in hand. That’s after Hansi Flick’s side saw a two-goal lead slip away in their draw at Celta Vigo ahead of Tuesday night’s meeting with Brest. It’s still incredibly tight at the top in Serie A, with Napoli beating Roma 1-0 to spoil Claudio Ranieri’s first match back in charge - thanks to a goal from a certain Romelu Lukaku. The less said about Milan 0-0 Juventus the better as Thiago Motta’s side continue to uninspire with a trip to Villa Park looming on Wednesday… Bayern Munich and Harry Kane continue to lead the charge in the Bundesliga after their 3-0 win over Augsburg - but do they need a statement win against PSG to show their credentials? Plus, a big win for Dortmund on the pitch against Freiburg - but drama at their AGM off it. And in Ligue 1, PSG warmed up for that trip to the Allianz Arena with a 3-0 win over Toulouse - so can they finally translate their domestic dominance into a much-needed victory in the Champions League? Tottenham thrash Man City at the Etihad, as Cooper loses Leicester job

Jimbo is joined by Daniel Storey, Tim Spiers and Adrian Clarke after an incredible Premier League weekend full of plot twists. Man City suffer their 5th defeat in a row and possibly their most shocking ever under Pep Guardiola as Spurs run riot 4-0 at the Etihad. What’s going wrong? Could it be an era-defining result? Jay Harris was there. Next up for City, leaders Liverpool who are now 8 points clear despite being given a major scare by Southampton on Sunday. Leicester took the surprise decision to sack Steve Cooper after just 12 games in charge. Rob Tanner tells us why they really don’t want to end up back in the Championship. Ruben Amorim’s Man United score after 81 seconds but are held 1-1 by Ipswich in his first game in charge. Can Man City end their losing streak against rebranded Spurs?

Jimbo has Jack Lang, Tom Williams and Jay Harris for company in the studio as the Premier League returns. It’s official - Pep Guardiola will be at Man City until at least the summer of 2026. Can that news wake City from their slumber as they host a Tottenham team with a new badge and an excellent record against Guardiola? Sam Lee has more. An incredible Serie A title race, while Real close the gap on Barca

Jimbo’s got Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballús and James Horncastle alongside him for a deep dive into a fascinating weekend of action across the continent. It’s fair to say the Serie A title race is hotting up, with just two points separating Napoli in first and Juventus in sixth! That’s after Inter and Napoli shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the San Siro, while Atalanta, Fiorentina, Lazio and Juve all picked up big wins. Real Madrid clawed back some ground in the La Liga title race after their 4-0 win over Osasuna which included a hat-trick for Vinicius, a first goal of the season for Jude Bellingham - and a devastating injury for Eder Militao. They’re now six points behind Barcelona with a game in hand after Hansi Flick’s side fell to only their second league defeat of the season at Real Sociedad in controversial circumstances... Bayern Munich find themselves five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table after their 1-0 win over St Pauli courtesy of Jamal Musiala's sensational strike. Meanwhile, Dortmund’s horror start to the season rumbled on with a 3-1 defeat at Mainz - and Leverkusen’s week to forget continued as they were held by Bochum. And in Ligue 1, it’s business as usual for PSG who continued their unbeaten start to the season in a 4-2 win over Angers. You will be hard-pressed to find a better football podcast than this. It’s presented by some awesome football journalists and writers who truly know their stuff and always give us great content in every episode. James Richardson anchors the show brilliantly and every guest presenter featured is an expert in a different area of European football, bringing a unique perspective from the country he or she is based in (Raphael Honigstein for example is probably the best German football journalist out there, James Horncastle is peerless in Italian football matters and Julien Laurens comprehensively covers both French and English football. Michael Cox and Daniel Storey are always worth listening to as well). If you’re new to the show, go back and listen to the retrospective shows they put out during the suspension of European football after the COVID outbreak. Quality all round.
