2024 NYC Marathon Pre-Race With Conner Mantz, Clayton Young, Hellen Obiri, Dakotah Popehn, Jess McClain + More

The final World Marathon Major of 2024 is almost here! In a banner year for road running, it’s hard to imagine how anything could top the Olympics, a historic Chicago, or even the early thrills of the U.S. Trials, but NYC has assembled a field full of living legends, rising stars, and fascinating narratives primed to end the year on a high note. Three 2024 Olympic medalists are hitting the five boroughs: Olympic champion Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia, silver medalist Bashir Abdi of Belgium, and bronze medalist Hellen Obiri of Kenya. Episode 27 –Mia Behm

Our guest for today’s show is one of the fastest ladies in New York City after she just ran 2:33:52 at the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 13. She also owns a runner-up finish from the 5,000 meters at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships from her days at the University of Texas. It’s Mia Behm. On this show, you’ll hear the story of her start in the sport while in Texas, her surprising finish at the NCAA championships and then dealing with injuries that followed her highest moment. After some time running post collegiately in Austin, Mia moved to New York, watched her friends try the marathon and then curiosity got the best of her. It’s safe to say testing the marathon has been a great decision as she now eyed the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. Emily Cole - Duke track athlete, author of The Player's Plate, and NIL social media star

On this episode of More Than Running, I had a great conversation with Duke senior athlete Emily Cole. Emily competes in the steeplechase, and this year she placed 7th at the NCAA Championships and qualified for the USA Championship. Emily is most well known for her social media presence on TikTok and Instagram where she shares daily training, motivation, and her life as a student-athlete. She has been successful in the NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) space as well working with brands and monetizing her social media. Our conversation is focused on Emily's launch of her book The Player's Plate this week! She will be the first student-athlete to monetize a book published while in university. The Player's Plate was designed to share real practical information for athletes who are aiming to fuel their bodies and minds. Emily was inspired to write the book after she struggled with her own nutrition in high school leading her to a coma due to over hyrdation and low sodium levels. Emily is a breath of fresh air and a very inspirational to athletes who are aiming to take ownership over their own nutrition.
