KUKUSHKA MIXTAPES 006 ANGELO SCALICI

This months edition of the mixtapes comes from label regular Angelo Scalici. Angelo Scalici’s career began as an open format DJ in 2005,performing in various night clubs in New York City. Angelo’s interest for music was influenced at a young age by European folk songs and his love for percussion. Producing as a hobby, he first explored the production of mashups andremixes which were made available via niche sites. Attending a variety of nightclubs and drawing inspiration from the likes of Crazibiza, AT FC, Chus & Ceballos and Mastiksoul, Angelo began applying certain concepts to his style while defining his unique sound. It was in 2010 that Angelo released his first original hit single “La Mosca”leading to the syndication of his career. With performances in venues such as Pacha NYC and The Lady Silvia in LasVegas, it is no question that Angelo’s passion depends on big room funky sounds, including sub- genres such as Deep, Tech and Soulful House. Since his first hit, Angelo has recorded many other tracks along with his personal favorite“Rock T his Drum” which was released in 2012 for MiamiMusic Week. It was later featured during the Winter Music Conference and heard around the United States and inseveral countries, including Italy and Spain. KUKUSHKA MIXTAPES 005 KADENZA

This months episode of the mixtape comes from label regulars kadenza. Kadenza has a serious history in house music on the South Coast of England. Mark and Simon met in 2001 while both holding residencies at their local club and served their DJ apprenticeship supporting the likes of Tall Paul, Jeremy Healy, Seb Fontaine and Danny Rampling back in the day. Mark went on to open his own record shop ‘Essential Plastic’ with Simon also working the counter supplying their locality with the best dance music from around the world As the new decade dawns, nothing has changed, house music and club culture have become a way of life. The record shop may have gone but Mark is a leading UK promoter now with his regular ASMBL club night and event brand. ASMBL attracts an upfront diverse crowd hungry to hear the best DJ’s in the world who he invites down to play alongside Simon and himself at venues around the UK’s South Coast. Kadenza have a love of music with influences from many genres stretching back to Motown, 80’s/90’s Rap and Hip Hop, Soul and Funk. Drum & Bass and Jungle right up to industrial and Berlin-style Techno and Trance. This has led the duo into the studio and music production. A firm fixture in the House and Techno scene, Sonny Wharton has established himself as one of the finest DJ/Producers to emerge from the UK in recent years. Breaking through by winning a mix-tape competition for Renaissance and DJMag immediately placed Sonny right in the heart of Ibiza’s nightlife with high profile shows at Amnesia and Space, and a weekly residency at Manumission whilst capturing the attention of key industry press and aligning him alongside the likes of Nic Fanciulli in Mixmag as a‘Future Hero’. We kick start the mixtape series with Kukushka Records head honcho luke stangers live set from I:AM in wrexham, an hour of floor filling tech house closing the main room at central station along side wAFF & Bontan.. Inspired heavily by the early 90’s Rave Scene, UK based DJ/Producer Luke Stanger is certainly one to keep your eye on. A regular on the Festival circuit Luke’s energetic and percussive style of Tech House see’s him play year after year at Nozstock, Milecastle and Wickerman alongside the likes of Steve Lawler, Riva Starr and X-Press 2 as well as holding down a much revered bi-monthly residency at Glasgow’s infamous Club69. Fast becoming a rising star within the UK house scene, Luke’s production skills have not gone unnoticed and seen him sign to German based Chibar Records and storm through the ranks at Whartone with a consistent run of Top 10 chart successes across several leading download stores including Traxsource.
