    Rated R

This podcast includes two guest speakers collaborators of the project Lili Spira and Rachael Cornejo. On this episode we will be discussing the global rise of mental health & well-being in the digital age. We realize that each day as you lay on your bed you’re likely to view potentially harmful content from the Black Lives Matter movement. Triggering content from the sexual violence & femicide in Nigeria & various African countries. There are discussions on digital & physical safety at protests & online activism. However very little is mentioned about psycho- social safety i.e. mental health. Neither are there resiliency tools needed to navigate content and be mentally prepared to keep on the fight.  . The name of the project is Rated R for 2 reasons; 1. Just like the movie ratings, if a show has nudity or graphic violence it is Rated R. The same would be applied to all the violent content watched by users each day on social media. 2. It is a combination of 3 Rs: Resistance. Revolution. Resilience. The first 2Rs is our current reality. We need to be fortified with the last R to keep on fighting We created a site that will launch soon with resources & fun toolkits listing ways to watch content, self-care check -ins and more. The show walks through what to expect on the site, how to navigate the content uploaded and  exciting events lined up in coming months. . I hope you find the conversation useful as you continue the digital activism. We see you, We support you and We are proud of you! The revolution is televised and we got your back! Ep 3 - Zombie Predictions: "The New Jim Code" w Renee Cummings

Years back, a black woman had to wear a white mask to be recognized by  a facial recognition software 😳 A self driving car may not recognize a person of color on the road while crossing. 😮 Where does it end? Today's episode sheds light on Zombie predictions where the prediction of the algorithms are systematically overestimating risk towards people of color. I have Renee Cummings as my guest speaker. She is from Trinidad and Tobago and a triple threat with degrees and experience in Journalism, Psychology, Neuroscience and Criminology. 🎖She currently works  on rehabilitation and therapeutic jurisprudence. Looking at ways to reduce re-offense and support  offenders in relation to re-entry into society after incarceration.  She sheds light on the issue of Algorithm Bias and how it has negatively impacted the criminal justice system. She drops a lot of gems and here is one of my favorite : "criminal justice has got to be the conscience of artificial intelligence." 🗣 In this episode, we take the time to define certain terms that are prevalent in the digital age: ⏺Algorithms ⏺Inherent/ Implicit biases ⏺The Fourth Industrial Revolution Renee is a true lover of Diana Ross and eloquent speaker, you dont want to miss this episode.💃🏻 🗞The Episode's Breaking News is on Google's Acquisition of Fitbit "Health is Wealth" 💛Segwae: Not Good Enough, first spoken piece by yours truly. 📲Data Detox Tip: WYA?
