Maitland Steamfest

Maitland Steamfest

All aboard! Steamfest is Australia’s premier annual festival of steam trains. Tens of the thousands of people flock to Maitland’s Hunter Valley every year to experience the romance of train travel. This podcast tracks the history of the discovery of coal in Australia, to building the first railway line outside of Sydney, to the speed of the infamous steam locomotive the 3801 and the bone shaking reliability of the Red Rattlers.

The podcast was made with the support of Maitland City Council and research support from FASTLab at the University of Newcastle.
