    Ep 18 John Blay - Writer and naturalist

    John Blay has written extensively about the bush and its people in prose, drama and poetry. During an epic bushwalk in 1982, he discovered a new species of wattle in the Brogo wilderness. Growing to over 30 metres, the species was named Acacia blayana in his honour. He has served as a national Arts & Reviews Editor and has published photographs and stories in magazines like Good Weekend. He continues his work in the SE Forests and writes about the region’s natural history. After 2001, he has been involved in researching the Bundian Way in association with local Aboriginal communities and as the Bundian Way Project Officer for Eden Local Aboriginal Land Council. His extensive researches and bushwalks whilst investigating the important traditional route, resulted in its official recognition and NSW Heritage listing in 2012. His prize-winning sculptures have been shown in Sydney, Bermagui, Jindabyne and Delegate. A selection of his photographs was exhibited in Sydney in November 2004 and feature in an ongoing exhibition in Delegate at the Bundian Way Aboriginal Art Gallery (2012-18).     Ep 17 Jess Martin - Set Designer and Fabricator, Prop Maker and Ceramicist

    Jess Martin is a designer/maker and creator with a background in theatre design. A founding member of the London set design collective Morning Sets, Designing and building sets for theatre, film, events and public spaces. Alongside her role with Morning Sets she worked within a variety of community organisations creating immersive workshops with and for young people. Recent projects focused on youth participation in the design of public spaces and playscapes. With Brexit and COVID Jess finds herself back in Australia pursuing the elusive processes of creating in ceramic.

    Ep 16 Philip Moriarty - Musician, songwriter

    From his first foray as a punk clarinettist in Canberra band The Slammers, through a twenty year career co-fronting the Gadflys, to current incarnation as The Great Muldavio in Kabaret Noir outfit Mikelangelo And The Black Sea Gentlemen, Philip Moriarty's musical path, though not consciously avante guarde or anti-idolist, has certainly been unusual. More recently he has been busy (when not touring with Mikelangelo) releasing his first solo album, rehearsing with various forms of a collective known variously as The Paris Brests, The Troubles and The Hi-Fi Boots and, spasmodically, pursuing a solo career with his latest album “L'espirt De L’escalier" This conversation deals with some dark issues as well as creative pursuits.     Ep 15 Heath Cullen - Musician, songwriter

    Heath Cullen returns with his first new album in five years, Springtime in the Heart, unveiled on April 17, 2020. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with three time Grammy winning producer Joe Henry and is the long awaited follow up to Cullen’s 2015 collaboration with Elvis Costello’s Imposters, the critically acclaimed Outsiders. The release also marks Joe Henry’s triumphant return to the producer’s chair following a tumultuous year in which he received a stage four cancer diagnosis (now, thankfully, in remission), and features an A-team of Henry alumni: Jay Bellerose on drums; Jennifer Condos on electric bass, Adam Levy on guitars; Patrick Warren on keys; and Levon Henry on reeds. The album was recorded and mixed by Pete Min and mastered by Kimberly Rosen. Like every other performer who relies on touring to make their living, Heath lost his entire income in the blink of an eye. Coming right off the back of a string of canceled work due to the Australian bushfire summer from hell, this COVID-19 pandemic hits hard. Heath was preparing to announce a run of tour dates to launch the new album, but has no option now but to put these plans on hold until it’s safe to go back out on the road.     Ep 14 Melanie Horsnell - Musician, songwriter

    Melanie has been described by the Sydney Morning Herald as having a voice of ‘the utmost delicateness’, as a ‘songwriting gem’ by The Australian. Based in Candelo in southern NSW, Melanie has recorded Eleven albums and EPs including her latest solo album, 'Trobairitz'. Melanie's critically acclaimed album The Cloud Appreciation Society was long-listed for the 2013 Australian Music Prize, Quatre Chemins for the 2015 Australian Music Prize, and she was nominated for an APRA award in 2011. She has toured with Glen Hansard and The Frames, Jason Mraz, Bernard Fanning, Lou Rhodes, Slaid Cleaves and Sarah Blasko among others, as well as touring extensively on her own in Australia and Europe. Melanie recorded an album in French, which was funded by the highly successful Pozible campaign and gave Melanie a six month residency in France, writing songs with poet Alain Rivet and pop icon Helena Noguerra. Melanie has also written songs with Wendy Matthews and Catherine Britt, and for film and television.     Ep 13 Brian Rapsey - Visual story teller, director, camera and editor

    Every year Brian has one of the best gigs going:  making travel films and mentoring the winner of the international World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship. So far he’s filmed assignments in Rio De Janeiro for Carnivale,  New Orleans for Mardi Gras, Mexico for Day of the Dead, the remote pacific coast of Colombia, the stunning Sapa region of Vietnam, the remote Solu Khumbu region of Nepal, Kerala - India, & Tanzania. Brian’s travel films revolve around his passions: healthy communities, the environment, sustainable travel and social enterprises that benefit all of the above. These films are accompanied by fundraising campaigns leveraging micro donations from customers of World Nomads - a global brand in travel insurance. Over the years these “Positive Footprints” campaigns have made a massive difference to communities all across the globe. Brian has worked for 20 years in TV, documentary, corporate, educational & film production. Having shot short films and documentaries over the years, Brian also worked for ABC's pioneering digital film channel "Fly TV" and taught for 6 years at one of Australia's premier TV and video production training schools, Metro Screen. He trained originally at Swinburne (now the Victorian College of the Arts School of Film & TV) in writing and directing drama and holds degrees in History & Anthropology.
