Welcome to Reel Talk: Secrets to Success where we get real advice from industry insiders on how to make it in the movie business. Our guests look back at their own careers, sharing how the scored their breakout opportunity and the biggest lessons they've picked up along the way. If you're looking to start a career in the entertainment industry, then this is the perfect place to learn how to get your foot on the door.
In this episode, I chat with the always amazing Cheryl L. Bedford. A producer, line producer, educator and activist, Cheryl is the founder of Women of Color Unite and the JTC list, as well as spearheading the #StartWith8 initiative. One of my absolutely favorite people in the industry, she actively works to bring down barriers and create space for all marginalized people.
In her usual candid manner, Cheryl shares the key role mentorship has played in her own career, the importance of connecting with others on a human level, and how one must always forge their own way. In the episode, Cheryl shares stories, hurdles she's had to overcome, and her advice for those that are just starting out. She also shares her key strategy to get someone's attention when surrounded by people during festivals.
