Edwin van der Sar Exclusive - Reliving The Victory In Moscow ’08

Rio Ferdinand Presents

Rio is reunited with his old team mate Edwin van der Sar who speaks for the first time since suffering a brain haemorrhage. This exclusive interview covers the different perspective that serious event has given him, the Champions League victory in 2008, and Edwin also gives his view on the current Manchester United number one, Andre Onana.

The pair look at the impact Erik Ten Hag had at Ajax, why he wasn’t able to succeed at Old Trafford and the strategies and personalities required in order for a club’s senior leadership team to be successful.

After becoming CEO at Ajax, Edwin details the pressures of that job and analyses the changes INEOS have made since coming into Manchester United. He also details what happened when he suffered a brain haemorrhage whilst on holiday following his resignation from the Amsterdam club.

Rio reveals why he was so grateful for Edwin’s penalty save in the Moscow shootout in ‘08 and Edwin reveals the impact a young Cristiano Ronaldo had on the dressing room following his arrival aged 18.

Edwin also tells Rio about the role Ruud van Nistelrooy played in Sir Alex Ferguson recruiting him from Fulham and why ‘gentle’ Zinedine Zidane was a joy to play with at Juventus.
