On today’s podcast episode, I’m talking about preparing for embryo transfer. I find that it’s helpful to think about embryo transfer the same way you might think about having a very special guest over for dinner.

What are you going to do if you have a very special person over? You’re going to make sure everything is absolutely perfect. When it comes to preparing for an embryo transfer, you want to take the same approach. Your metaphorical home in the house analogy is your uterus.

The devastation of doing more tests and finding out that something might be wrong that you have to fix is kind of a pain, but the devastation of going through a transfer that doesn’t work is also pretty darn awful. Because I work so hard to help families, if I can do anything to prevent someone from not experiencing the devastation of a negative embryo transfer, I’m going to do everything possible to clean up that house and make sure it’s perfect.

What I recommend is that people do 3 tests before embryo transfer to make sure your uterus is absolutely perfect prior to your embryo transfer. They are: Hysteroscopy Saline Infusion, Sonogram, and Hysterosalpingogram.

Meaghan Doyle is the owner and genetic counselor at DNAide Genetic Counselling. She specializes in infertility, preimplantation genetic testing, and preconception genetic counselling. After seeing patients who came from other clinics where access to a genetic counsellor was not available, she saw the negative impact this had on their care. She has since joined Instagram to help provide education on fertility genetics to help bridge this gap. Meaghan is passionate about genetics, and works together with patients so they can feel empowered to make decisions about their fertility treatment that are best for them.

I'm delighted to have her join me on the podcast today to discuss mosaic embryos, genetics, and your fertility. We are going to discuss the success rates of transferring mosaic embryos, understanding the different rankings of mosaic embryos, and the misconceptions about mosaics.

When is it Time to See a Fertility Expert?

When is it Time to See a Fertility Expert?

See the full show notes: https://draimee.org/is-it-time-to-see-a-fertility-specialist
If you’re eager to get pregnant and are wondering if it’s time to see a fertility specialist, you might be right. There are a number of factors to take into account when deciding whether it’s time to see a fertility specialist. Of course there are a lot more details about each of these items in the podcast episode today, but here is a sneak peek of the 6 reason that may be telling you it’s time to see a fertility expert:

    1. If you’re over 35: schedule an appointment if you’ve been trying for 6 months.
    2. If you’re over 37: consider seeing a fertility specialist (and not wait before seeking professional advice) to get your TUSHY checked.
    3. If you have irregular cycles, make an appointment to see what may be causing that irregularity..
    4. Painful periods. If you think your periods are more painful than average, or you are worried about the pain you’re experiencing, you may suffer from endometriosis, which can make it more difficult to get pregnant. A fertility expert can help with a diagnosis and treatment..
    5. Heavy bleeding. If your periods seem especially heavy, this may be a sign that there is something blocking your ability to get pregnant.
    6. Male factor or sperm issues. It takes an egg and a sperm to make a baby so if your male partner or sperm donor has a chronic medical problems, is drinking, smoking or partaking in drugs,  or is overweight, a fertility specialist can help determine if that is playing a role.

Today on The Egg Whisperer Show, I'm really excited to be joined by Dr. Ellen Vora. I feel we are very much alike. She's passionate about easing the real suffering that people experience from anxiety and mental health issues. I can't wait to have her come on and share some new insights about anxiety (it turns out it's not just a "neck up" problem), the difference between "false" anxiety and true anxiety, and how to handle the anxiety that often comes up as a fertility patient. We'll also be talking more about her book, which came out this year, titled "The Anatomy of Anxiety."

Dr. Ellen Vora is a holistic psychiatrist, acupuncturist, and yoga teacher. She takes a functional medicine approach to mental health—considering the whole person and addressing imbalance at the root. Dr. Vora received her B.A. from Yale University and her M.D. from Columbia University, and she is board-certified in psychiatry and integrative holistic medicine. She lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.

PCOS: It has Nothing to do With Cysts

PCOS: It has Nothing to do With Cysts

Read the full show notes: https://www.draimee.org/pcos-it-has-nothing-to-do-with-cysts
Do you know what I think of PCOS? I think the name should really be “Please Confirm this Ovary Syndrome.” I'm telling you, I find that there's no condition that's more misdiagnosed than PCOS.

Today on The Egg Whisperer Show podcast, I'm talking about PCOS, or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Did you know that celebrities like Jillian Michaels and Posh Spice both have PCOS?

    A few PCOS facts:
PCOS does not equal infertility.  You may have a harder time getting pregnant if you have PCOS, because you may not be ovulating frequently or regularly. It's difficult only because it's hard to know when you're ovulating. When you do ovulate with PCOS, you are likely to ovulate multiple eggs, making you very fertile! Every time you ovulate, you make a cyst of ovulation.  Ovulating multiple eggs is what creates multiple cysts, which is where you get the name: Poly (multiple) cystic (cystic). Some symptoms may include: hair loss of the scalp, hirsutism (or hair on your body in areas like the chin, upper abdomen, lower abdomen or back), high testosterone levels, high insulin levels, higher estrogen levels, and higher BMI.  You can help manage PCOS by a paleo-like or mediterranean diet, taking birth control pills which can lower testosterone, or other testosterone-lowering drugs, and supplements.
