Drew Barrymore ON: Reframing Society's Expectations of Love & How to Know When to Let Go of an Unproductive Relationship
Today, I am talking to Drew Barrymore. Drew is a talented actress, producer, and director, known for her roles in films such as "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial", "Charlie's Angels", and "50 First Dates." She made her acting debut at the age of six in the film "Altered States" and rose to fame as a child star in the 1982 film "E.T." She has since established herself as a leading lady in Hollywood and has also produced and directed several films. In addition to her successful career in the entertainment industry, she is also an author and a businesswoman, with her own production company and a cosmetics line. Currently, she hosts the The Drew Barrymore Show, which debuted in 2020 and has been renewed for a fourth season this year.
Drew shares her thoughts on being more empathetic, which means putting ourselves in others' shoes and treating them with kindness and compassion, why learning self-forgiveness is crucial for personal growth and healing, liberating or freeing yourself from mental, physical, or emotional constraints and can be achieved through self-awareness, self-care, and self-love. Prioritizing ourselves means taking care of our physical and mental well-being, setting boundaries, and making time for our own needs and wants.
It is important to remember that we cannot pour from an empty cup, and taking care of ourselves allows us to show up fully for others.

I don’t know if you will ever read this letter. But still I want to put to paper the impact you had and still have on my life and that only the sound of your voice puts my mind and ease.
Only two month ago my life was headed for disaster and death fast.
First, let me tell you something about myself to put it into context.
I am a biracial “woman” born in the eighties. And to explain the air quotes, I don’t think I identify myself as female but for the lack of choices when I was born when I was born, that’s what is was.
I always felt out of place in this world and never did find a place where it felt safe to be myself. Leading to a life long search of validation from others. I am intelligent and good in every single thing I trie. But still my life felt empty and felt compelled to self destructive behavior.
I was the first woman to ever join a Dutch SF (special forces) team and successfully made it through training, I am a competitive Muay Thai fighter and played football at a high level. And this was the side of me I showed the world, strong and fearless. But in reality I am sensitive to everyone’s energy and emotions. I have never felt enough in this world. A lot of people that were important to me died in a short period of time recently. Leaving me with, what felt like, the weight of the world to lift from other peoples shoulders. Looking at me to fix everything. As was logical, I was the strong one. So I picked up everyone up off the floor and denied myself te time to mourn my father, my grandmother and my grandfather.
Well 2 years ago everything collapsed, I’ve held on for years and I just couldn’t anymore. I a flash I lost everything, my marriage, my kid, my job, my house, my friends, my body and my soul. I got addicted to gambling, hoping that one lucky win could change everything around. I got addicted to drugs and took it every day while living with my mother, who I thought hated me.
I’ve always felt that I had a big impact on people. At times it felt lukt I was a magnet, I always saw this as annoying. Than rather appreciating this fact. No I want to use that talent to teach, to coach and spread love and wisdom. I notice that people look up to me often. And I never understood this. I now want to use this to help people find their own light. I am searching for the way to live my purpose and I am growing every day during that proces. And it’s is all thanks to you. It feels like you’re my brother, my teacher, my Pilar. I am eternally grateful for your wisdom an love. You have truly saved my life.
And if there is a chance I can do the same for only one person in this world, I will give my al to try to achieve this. As soon as I have the financial means to become a Jay Shetty coach, I will apply.
So thank you, for all that you are. We are truly connected.
With open heart and with full awareness I thank you.
With much love. Your fellow human,
Very valuable and inspiring
