I am trying to at least learn Hiragana before going to live in Japan for three months. A complete beginner, even so I very much enjoy the weekly Tofugu mail. The Japanese language not being up to my standard, or down to it, I glean a lot of inside/background information about Japan. Thanks!
Vague and Confusing explanation
I’m a Japanese teacher myself and I’m afraid I cannot recommend this podcast to my students. Just checked the episode about んだ and んですand the explanation is very vague and confusing. The Japanese lady Kanae doesn’t seem to understand the questions from her podcast partner, and also sounds like she doesn’t really know what she is talking about. This make it very hard to follow their conversation. It’s a pity because the topic itself is great, and I’d like to hear more teachers explain this material, but it‘s obvious to me that these people didn’t prepare it well and didn’t prepare enough.
