Adios Delantero
It had been a topsy-turvy season already and we were only one month in, I thought to myself as I walked down the corridor to the dressing room. Still, nothing like match-day to put this week’s doom and gloom to rest. It was sadly ironic I was thinking these optimistic thoughts as I swung open the dressing room door to a scene of horror. The entire first eleven were sat on their benches decapitated with their heads stuffed into their open lockers. There was blood everywhere.
Having played at centre back for the best part of twenty years, I’d seen some horrible injuries in my time, but this took the biscuit. How much bad luck can a team have? This time though I had a pretty good idea of who the culprits were as I stewed and reflected on what a poor decision the pre-season tour to Colombia had been. I pulled out my new Nokia 3310 and hit speed dial 3; Christopher Casper the U21 coach.
‘Hi Steve.’ Chris said.
‘Hi Chris, it’s Steve.’ I replied missing that he already knew it was me calling.
‘Yes. Hi Steve.’
‘Get the U21’s ready I’m going to need them all here at the stadium tonight. They’re all starting.’
‘What? Why?’ Chris exclaimed aghast.
‘No time to explain, just get them down here, pronto.’ I said hanging up on my sleek grey handheld that slipped seamlessly back into my pocket.
The cleaners were going to have a hell of job.

What is a podcast, really?
Barnes felt the vibration in his pocket. His shorts was a little bit loose as he had just finished training and hadn’t switched to jeans yet. However, not as loose as they had been during his playing days. Then he probably wouldn’t have felt the vibration. But this time he did. It was his brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max 256 GB that yearned for his attention. As it so often does. Barnes tried to think back to a time before we as a society became addicted to phones. But he couldn’t really. Long gone were the days of being offline and having to travel all across the Pennines or the world to find missing players. These days he could FaceTime them and instantly know whether they were home, at training, or leaving a nightclub with a blonde in each arm. Easy as that. Of course, he’d miss some great opportunities to go sightseeing. Especially now with players from all over the world. Even Japan. He’d been there once, on preseason. Which is of course a time of training and running, making the players hungry for both proper football and food. Sushi wasn’t really for Barnes. There wasn’t much time for sightseeing though, so he’d like to go back. Maybe take the old Jag for a ride in the countryside. Or maybe a Suzuki Boulevard M109R B.O.S.S. This is the performance cruiser other bikes wished they were. The dark and muscular BOSS has a powerful V-twin engine using some of the largest pistons in the industry - a bike that will get your adrenaline flowing whenever you ride it. Barnes picked up his phone. Podcast alert. A new episode of Quickly Kevin was available from iTunes.
Amazing
My new favourite podcast.
