A great walkthrough of all the albums song by song, by a man (and fan) with musical literacy and intelligence. Simply great. 😀

I am thoroughly enjoying these podcasts. I am the same age as the podcaster and have been a fan of Elton’s since 1972. I own every one of his albums. It’s fun to hear another person’s views on the songs with a music teacher’s perspective.
Fun and informative

I’ve loved Elton John going on 25 years, and I have found this to be an informative look at each album track by track. Naming off the “Eltonisms” has made me aware of little signature flairs that Elton John puts into his songs. This podcast has also caused me to go back and revisit tracks that I’ve dismiss and appreciate them more. A must listen if you are a die hard Elton John fan of are just curious about what albums to listen to to really get to understand the man.
Necessary analysis good stuff

There are many great songwriters. The Beatles both collectively and individually, Billy Joel, James Taylor...I’m just going off the top,of my head here , but Elton John and Bernie Taupin...there’s just so much content. Eltons genius has long been dismissed by the so called reviewers of “trendsetting” magazines like Rolling stone in the 70s 80s and 90s. It seems like onLy now, with movie releases and farewell tours , and books, that is he getting the coverage he should have received in the 70s 80s and 90s, but to me it’s too little too late. The articles seem to be more about his personal life than about his genius as a composer and performer. Russel Paterson has gone back to the beginning to discuss each creation. So much to say. So many variations. So many different musicians coming and going, and for better or worse ( usually for better) there’s so much to be said. With so many albums it will take a while to get to the end. And when you get to the end it will be time to revisit them again because I think such discussions could continue for many many years. There’s only 1 Elton. Today everyone jumps on the tribute bandwagon. I say Too little too late. Its easy now. But from 76-2000 if you were playing his songs you had guts, you had soul. And if people listened, they said “wow I never heard that song”. But we knew the poignancy of Candle in the wind long before 1986 when it first became a hit in the U.S. or 1997 when the whole world learned it. It’s time to go to music class. Mr. Paterson I’ve done my homework, I’m ready for today’s lesson.
