Black from the Burbs

Black from the Burbs explores the life of a young black woman who recently moved to NYC after growing up in the suburbs. As a black person from an upper middle class background, she attempts to reconcile stereotypes about black people with her own sense of self, as many young black Americans do. While growing up in a predominately white neighborhood, she developed ideas about racial identity, generational wealth, and America as a whole that she hopes to share. Through the lens of her childhood and present-day experiences, she will dive deep into current social and political issues in a relaxed, witty, and, often, sarcastic way.
