Great show and adverts

An interesting show and the only podcast where I genuinely look forward to the advertisement about the show’s sponsor.
Love this every week!

I look forward to this podcast every week! Sometimes I find myself laughing along, sometimes choking back tears. I particularly enjoyed Gyles’ stifling laughter during the Merlin Holland episode😂🥹😂
Ha me too!

That’s so weird! I also just heard about it on Jane and Fi’s show and I’m also living in NZ. A Brit in Blenheim. It sounded great, so here’s hoping…
Mainly roses, but an occasional weed

I have really enjoyed all but one of the episodes. Gyles is a great raconteur and name dropper, but in Rosebud he gently leads his guests to talk about themselves. Sometimes revealing things they may not have thought about for years, often amusing or very moving, and only very occasionally boring where the guest is either self obsessed, sounds very rehearsed, and rather insufferable eg Geri Halliwell who was all three. That episode is the only one I couldn’t finish as she droned on with her navel gazing and how clever and wonderful she thinks is. I liked the Spice Girls’ music back in the day, but Old Spice did herself no favours. Otherwise the programme would have had 5 stars from me. Michael Palin was a standout episode. Some of the guests have given many interviews or sat on chat show sofas and I thought I had heard all their anecdotes, but Gyles’ charm and insightful questions ekes a little more from them, eg Dames Dench, Hancock and Lumley and Lady Glenconner. Guests like AJ Odudu and Patricia Owtram I knew little about, but their episodes were so enlightening and enjoyable have listened to them again. I have recommended the series to several people.
