    It's all in the detail

    It's all in the detail

We have looked at the macro factors that affect the markets as a whole, but now it’s time to delve into the micro factors that are specific to a company. These factors can help us determine whether a company is a good investment or not. Ask yourself... Who is managing this company? Are they profitable? Who are they competing against? The list could go on! Our chat with Candice Bourke will set you up to ask the right questions when looking at companies to invest in. Candice is an expert of translating jargon into layman’s terms and in this episode, she breaks down some of the most important metrics into everyday language!

    Thinking about the big picture

    Thinking about the big picture

Everyday the news cycle is filled with a variety of new stories and trends that impact our lives. We saw how COVID led to lockdowns, we read about how a new US president might change the way taxes are implemented for international companies, and we know a devastating cyclone off the coast of Australian can mean bananas are going to be really expensive again. One way or another, these events affect our everyday lives, so it's natural they also influence our investments. To learn a little more about how these trends can be interlinked with our personal finances, we speak to the very impressive Sally Macdonald, former CEO of Oroton and Big W. She explains how the economic environment impacts the share market and more importantly, how identifying and watching trends in can help us find investment opportunities.

So, you asked and we listened! Today we are going to breakdown the search for you and provide summaries for some of the most common brokers that our community are using!

    Beginning with a broker

    Beginning with a broker

Choices, choices, choices! You’ve decided to take the plunge and buy shares, but how? Where? Well, if you’ve got a bank, you’ve probably got a broker! In this episode, we’ll break down what a broker is, discuss how you can work out which broker is for you, and answer some of your broker questions. We want to debunk the classic Wall Street image - because these days buying or selling shares isn’t necessarily an old dude calling you up and asking if he can look after your money… In fact, it can be as simple as downloading an app, filling out some details and just... clicking buy! Don’t believe us? Well our friends Alec and Bryce at Equity Mates tested that buying stocks of Amazon was quicker than buying socks off Amazon - so listen along and test it out for yourself!
