BONUS: The NCAA Recruiting Timeline and Your Gymnast's Nutrition

This is an excerpt from our Competition Season Nutrition Clinic for L9/10/elite gymnasts + parents.  This was SO good that I wanted more of you to get the scoop on this valuable information 🩷 Disclaimer:  I am NOT a college recruiter. There are lots of amazing ones out there (shout out to @jhconsulting).  These are my unofficial observations after working with hundreds of gymnasts in the past 5+ years (and my own 20+ years in the sport, 16+ years as a Nationally rated WAG judge)😉 We have worked with hundreds of gymnasts who have committed to do gymnastics at:  ✅ D1 (full ride, partial scholarship, walk on) ✅ D2 ✅ D3 There are MANY paths when it comes to doing NCAA gymnastics.  And most of our clients who start working with us in middle school/early high school end up committing to full ride scholarships at Top 10 schools (and no, most of them were not elite gymnasts). It’s also not for everyone and there’s nothing wrong with enjoying your Dev career and then moving on with life. There’s a lot that goes into trying to become a NCAA gymnast… But the biggest threat to your gymnast’s goal is the ability to stay healthy.  There are PLENTY of talented L10/elites who never make it to do NCAA because then end up too injured, too often, and just can’t stay healthy.  There is a timeline when it comes to getting recruited, and being at the right place at the right time (aka, healthy, competing, and visible to your potential college coaches) is key to success 🔑 Here’s what our NCAA bound gymnasts have in common: ✨They started working on nutrition YEARS before June 15th (heading into Jr Year) ✨They LEVERAGE the power of nutrition to up-level their performance, skills, endurance, strength, power ⚬Which helped their scores, start values, IG videos, college camp impressions, etc ✨They OWN their nutrition (mom isn’t doing everything for them, but for sure supports) ✨At 13/14 years old, they took an active role in their fueling, performance nutrition, etc And… ✨They stay (mostly) healthy ✨And if they do get injured, those injuries healed way faster than before working …on nutrition, and don’t turn into a chronic problem ✨And, when injured, they check back in with us re: fueling to make sure their nutrition is optimized for healing + wasn’t contributing to the injury  The real kicker? Some have only done 1 full (successful) year of L10 due to injuries, and still committed to their dream school Jr or Sr year of high school (never say never, and it ‘ain’t over until it’s over) 😉 👉🏻They attempted to do 2-3 years of L10, but that was before they really started working on fueling and just couldn’t stay healthy enough to make it through a season, qualify to Nationals, etc. Listen to this episode to learn more! Episode 1: 3 Myths about Fueling the Gymnast

Welcome to the Fuel the Routine, a five-episode series dedicated to unlocking optimal performance and recovery with nutrition.  If you're listening to this, I'm assuming you worry about whether your high-level gymnast is eating enough, wonder what are the “right” kinds of food you should feed them, are tired of watching them struggle with injuries every season, can’t get them on board with nutrition, or maybe all of the above, and you are looking for help.  This is where I come in! My goal during this series is to break down how to fuel your gymnast and help them learn to use nutrition to support their performance and their longevity in the sport WITHOUT the stress or overwhelm with actionable steps you can start immediately. If you want to help your gymnast have a happy, healthy, and successful competition season next year, you’re in the right place! During this episode, I tackle three myths that gymnast parents are told about nutrition and fueling their gymnast and what you need to know instead. In this episode we cover: •       Can a gymnast only eat “clean” if they want to be successful? [2:34] •       How much food does a gymnast really need to fuel this sport? [3:33] •       Does gymnastics require a different set of food rules than other “normal” sports?
