Samantha Harden (tenured Professor) on Redefining Success

Flourishing Unfiltered: Tackling Loneliness, Self-Doubt, and Overwhelm in Business

In today's episode of Flourishing Unfiltered, we speak with Samantha Harden!

Dr. Samantha Harden, a behavioural psychologist and yoga teacher working as a tenured professor at the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Excercise at Virginia Tech University, shares her journey in academia and the importance of defining success on one's own terms.

She discusses the impact of feeling not good enough and the pressure to meet external expectations. She emphasises the need for social support, mindfulness, and movement as daily practices to promote well-being and combat burnout.

Samantha also questions the traditional metrics of success in academia and encourages a shift towards valuing subjective data and diverse research methods. She discusses her upcoming anthology on redefining success in academia and shares her personal journey of self-discovery and finding purpose.

She emphasises the importance of social connection, self-reflection, and having fun in our lives.

Samantha also talks about her passion for yoga and her plans to perhaps open a brick-and-mortar wellness space in the future. She encourages listeners to embrace their authentic voice and find joy in their journey.
