Science Meets Meditation, PhD, Scientist, x Dr. Hemal Patel: Twin Research Study & The Magic of the Mind

KHANCEPT Podcast

Dr. Hemal Patel is a distinguished researcher who has been making significant contributions to the field of medicine for over 15 years. As a tenured Professor & Vice-Chair for Research at the University of California, San Diego, with dual appointments as a VA Research Career Scientist & Research Pharmacologist at the VA San Diego Healthcare System, Dr. Patel is recognized for his pioneering work in bridging the gap between science & meditation. He obtained his PhD in Pharmacology & Toxicology from the esteemed Medical College of Wisconsin & completed postdoctoral work at UCSD under the tutelage of Paul Insel (2002-2005). His research has shed light on the impact of membrane structure on cell, organ, and organismal physiology and metabolism, with implications for a wide range of health conditions such as heart failure, diabetic cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, and aging. Dr. Patel is now delving into a new area of research to discover the molecular and biochemical signatures generated during meditation, which have the potential to impact human potential for health and disease management. He is utilizing advanced multi-omic approaches and machine learning to create a map of healthy meditation that could be utilized to target various diseases, opening up new possibilities for personalized and effective treatments. Dr. Patel's work is truly groundbreaking and has the potential to revolutionize the way we think about health and well-being.
