Was the Tower of Babel Event a Curse? Genesis 11:1–9 Sermon
a sermon from Fr. Nathan R. Hale
https://desertmissionanglican.org
This week we celebrated Pentecost, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the nations! Our sermon explored how the curse of confusing languages at the Tower of Babel was actually a merciful act by God. Rather than reversing Babel, the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost redeemed the multiplicity of languages and cultures so the Gospel could be contextualized for every nation.God's plan has always included a multi-cultural people expressing His beauty through diverse languages and cultures. The church can celebrate this diversity, and reject prejudice against any ethnicity. All find their needs met in Christ without any culture being inherently superior. As believers strive together in unity, serving others and preaching the Gospel, they experience the outpouring of God's Spirit. This allows them to prophesy, or testify, to God's truth in every tongue. The curse of Babel is redeemed so the multi-cultural church can comprehend and share the Good News with every family, language, people, and nation!Sermon summary developed with the help of AI. -
The Priesthood of All Believers - Exodus 28 Sermon
a sermon from Fr. Nathan R. Hale
visit DMAC online at https://desertmissionanglican.org
In this week's sermon, we explored how the priesthood involves mediation between God and humanity.
Historically, priests offered sacrifices on behalf of people. However, human mediators cannot fully communicate God's presence due to the limitation of sin--our own selfish and self-destructive attitudes, actions, and affections.
Jesus--as both the perfect mediator and only fully effectual sacrifice--dealt with sin through his death and resurrection.
The New Testament presents all Christians as having a priestly role - consecrating themselves, praying, and proclaiming Christ.
While clergy encourage this calling, the fullness of the priesthood belongs to Christ, who graciously give all believers a share in his ministry.
Through baptism, Christ's sacrifice, and the Spirit's testimony, Christians intercede for the world as a priesthood of believers, representing Christ's love to the world. -
Abiding in Christ and Bearing Fruit in the Kingdom - John 15:9–17 Sermon
A sermon on John 15:9–17 from Steward Toliver
http://desertmissionanglican.org
In John 15:9-17, Jesus shares profound truths with His disciples before His crucifixion. He teaches them about abiding in His love, keeping His commandments, and loving one another sacrificially as He loved them. Jesus tells them they are now friends rather than servants and are appointed to bear lasting spiritual fruit. When we embrace this awesome calling to abide in Christ's love, we experience the fullness of joy! -
4 things you need to know to navigate a chaotic world - I John 3:11–24 Sermon
a sermon from Fr. Nathan R. Hale
http://desertmisssionanglican.org
In a confusing world of conflicting messages, the Apostle John offers real, concrete answers to the fundamental questions we must answer to move forward together in life:
What is love?
How I know I’m on the track?
What is the truth?
How do I know the truth?
And how do I know God is with me?
Don't look to world for its answers or approval. And don't be surprised when the biblical answers are different than the worldly answers to these questions.
Instead, double down on Jesus: he is the way, the truth, and the life. He loves all. Forgives all. Lays down his life for his enemies.
Believe in him, and allow that belief to move you to love as he loves, as he empowers you by his Holy Spirit. -
Good Shepherds - John 10:11–16 Sermon
a sermon from Fr. Nathan R. Hale
desertmissionanglican.org
How many sheep in the church today have corrupt shepherds misled through oppression and neglect?
Ezekiel 34 condemns the wicked shepherds of Israel who abused their sacred calling to guide God's people, leaving the flock oppressed and defenseless. The Lord Himself intervened as the Good Shepherd incarnate.
Seeing the multitudes harassed like sheep without a shepherd, Christ Jesus lovingly laid down His life for His beloved flock. Though He appoints under-shepherds, they are flawed compared to the Perfect Shepherd, even as they pursue and grow in holiness.
In our time, many false and flawed shepherds appear. But don't despair!!
You can discern Truth by knowing Jesus intimately - study His teachings, rely on his righteousness, abide in His love.
Christ alone is the true Shepherd worthy of your trust. -
