The Mike Henry Show - Felicia Day - Ep. 16

The Mike Henry Show - Felicia Day - Ep. 16

I first met Felicia Day in 2002 when we did improv together at the Empty Stage Theater in West Los Angeles. Family Guy had been canceled and I was sharpening my comedy skills in many ways, including improvisation. Felicia was quirky and funny and always brought great energy. We lost touch, but I took note of her success with #theguild and saw her on billboards occasionally. I ran into her at a birthday party a few months ago and asked her to come be on the show.

Felicia and I talked about the fun of our improv days and then each finding our way in the entertainment business. We discussed the importance of learning, through experience, what doesn’t feel right and then getting back to being yourself and making the art you want to make. She told me about being “aggressively naked” at the Korean spa and how smooth her skin is afterwards. I told her about my recent and very impactful Ayahuasca experience. We had lots of laughs and a very nice catch-up. Felicia is brilliant and a true individual.

And during the commercial break, I inserted the “Mr. Hilarious” scene from my pilot, “Home on the Strange.” Lots of good laughs in this episode. Enjoy!

The Mike Henry Show - Seth MacFarlane - Ep. 15

The Mike Henry Show - Seth MacFarlane - Ep. 15

I first met Seth MacFarlane in 1994 when he was in college with my brother, Patrick, at the Rhode Island School of Design. I acted in Patrick’s films and Seth was his freakishly-talented and hilarious buddy. Seth and I became friends and I later helped him with some jokes for the Family Guy pilot presentation. When he sold the series, he invited me to write jokes and create characters for the show.

We got together in my office recently and discussed our long friendship and many other things, including Family Guy and Seth’s long list of other creative projects. We also talked about my wonderful and talented brother, Patrick. I included a student film of Patrick’s, in which Seth starred. I also dug up some old, behind the scenes clips from season one of Family Guy. We talked about my recent ayahuasca experience and the insights I gained. We discussed kindness and the need for apolitical humor in this tense time. We also had some surprise guests drop in to say hello… none other than Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood. Let’s just say that this is the best podcast episode in the history of podcasts. Enjoy!

The Mike Henry Show - Lisa Delarios - Ep. 14

The Mike Henry Show - Lisa Delarios - Ep. 14

I first met Lisa Delarios in the year 2000. My brother, Patrick, and I were introduced to her by a mutual friend, Joanne Solomon, whom I had met doing improv at UCB in New York. I had seen Lisa do stand up in New York and thought she was real cool and funny. We all hung out as pals for a while and then lost touch. I reached out to Lisa a couple months ago on Instagram and invited her to come on my show. It was great catching up on things like stand-up comedy, overcoming fear, nurturing animals, helping people and making the most out of this one life we get. I really dig Lisa and this episode. Enjoy.

The Mike Henry Show - Chris Tallman - Ep. 13

The Mike Henry Show - Chris Tallman - Ep. 13

I first met Chris Tallman back in the early 2000s at Channel 101 which was a really cool monthly showcase of super short subject TV series which were created by aspiring filmmakers. Chris created and starred in a show called Time Belt and my brother Patrick and I created Kicked In The Nuts. Both series were favorites on Channel 101. in this episode, Chris and I get together for the first time in over 20 years. We hang out and talk about Channel 101 as well as Chris’s early influences and his path into comedy which included dropping out of the University of Wisconsin and moving to New York where he starred in improv and sketch, comedy shows in a group called the Bert Ferahners. Chris talks about his move to LA where he has since acted in many TV shows, including… Reno, 911, House, King of Queens, the Sarah Silverman program and many many more. We talk about priorities changing as we get older shifting from work to family and friends. Chris is a great guy and I loved chatting with him. I also threw in an old commercial parody at the intermission called Friendly Farm. This was another one where I was producing a commercial but the client left so I added some extra shots that I cut together secretly later. Enjoy and have a beautiful day.

The Mike Henry Show - Jamie Kennedy - Ep. 12

The Mike Henry Show - Jamie Kennedy - Ep. 12

I first met Jamie Kennedy way back in the 90s doing standup and later cast him in the Cleveland Show as Cleveland’s stepdaughter’s wannabe rapper boyfriend, Federline Jones. Jamie and I talk about the state of comedy, Jamie’s comedy beginnings, our rapidly-changing culture and all of the legends that we worked with on the Cleveland Show. At intermission, we pay a brief tribute to our fallen friend, Rich Hanrahan, with a segment from his standup act. Jamie and I may share a little bit of a love for conspiracy theories, which may or may not be conspiracies. Bottom line, we both love to make people laugh. It’s a fun episode, and we get a little deep toward the end. Enjoy!

The Mike Henry Show - Rob Huebel - Ep. 11

The Mike Henry Show - Rob Huebel - Ep. 11

I first met Rob Huebel in 1997 when we both were pursuing comedy in New York. We ended up living together while we were broke but on our missions. We talk about our comedy careers. Rob‘s success acting in many things, including Curb Your Enthusiasm, Parks and Recreation, The Descendants, and his own shows, Human Giant, and Children’s Hospital. We also talk about Henry Winkler (a.k.a. the Fonz) being the officiant at Rob‘s wedding. We talk about my hitting the lottery with Family Guy. Also, weed may or may not have contributed to each of our successes. As a bonus, I have included a commercial spoof that I shot while my brother and I were directing an ad for Henrico County, Virginia. And, finally, you can see my brother, Patrick acting in a short we shot for the Burly Bear network in 1998. Enjoy the episode!
