Ep. 1028: Biking Across America With No Food or Money - Daniel Troia

Ep. 1028: Biking Across America With No Food or Money - Daniel Troia

Daniel Troia is a filmmaker who just released his new documentary, "We Are All In This Together", which traces his cross-country bicycle journey with no food, no money, and his search for human connection. The film captures the interactions that Troia has with the people who lend a helping hand, and shows that those who face the most adversity in their lives, often have the most to give.
A journey taken entirely alone, Troia crosses the Great Basin Desert, climbs over 11,000 foot mountain passes in Montana, and rides over the Sierras, Rockies and Appalachian Mountain ranges. After covering 7,000 miles and 19 states, the film suggests that although so many things can feel overwhelming in our world right now, the one thing that we CAN control is how we treat each other.
“We Are All In This Together” is now streaming on Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Google Play!

Ep. 1027: How to Beat Monday - Revisited - Mike Chambers

Ep. 1027: How to Beat Monday - Revisited - Mike Chambers

    Originally aired November 8th, 2021
Summiting mountains in South America, bikepacking in the desert and climbing classic big wall routes sound like epic adventures that you’d have to save lots of vacation days for, right? The travel alone would take up at least a day or two, especially for any international trips. Not to mention making arrangements for other responsibilities like kids, pets, work, etc.
Mike Chambers and his adventure partner, Jason Antin, think otherwise. In fact, they think you can leave the office on Friday at 5pm, have an adventure of a lifetime and be back at work at 9am on Monday. Is it easy? Of course not. Is it worth it? C’mon now.
It all started when Mike was living in Boston and Jason was based in Colorado and the two came up with the bright idea of summiting Mt. Rainier in a true weekend. To the astonishment of the park rangers that hesitantly granted them the permit, their plan worked. Although the morning meetings that Monday were not as productive as they usually were, they both walked away with a pretty epic response to the age-old question, “what did you do this weekend?”
Once the concept of Beat Monday was proven, Jason and Mike began dreaming of what else could be possible with this format. Bikerafting, big wall climbing, ultrarunning, and international travel began to fill their weekends and was even made into an OutsideTV series, Beat Monday.
Mike is joining us today to tell us about what he’s learned through the Beat Monday mindset and what’s possible for you to beat whatever your Monday is.

Ep. 1026: Thru-Hike of the Eastern Continental Trail - Madison Blagden

Ep. 1026: Thru-Hike of the Eastern Continental Trail - Madison Blagden

In today’s episode, we delve into the extraordinary journey of Madison Blagden, the second female thru-hiker of the more than 5,500-mile Eastern Continental Trail. Since her first encounter with thru-hiking in 2017, Madison, aka “Peg Leg” has been captivated by the trails, embarking on epic adventures that defy the ordinary. Despite facing setbacks like losing her job during the COVID-19 pandemic, she turned adversity into opportunity, spending two years traversing the US in a vehicle.
From tackling 1,300 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail between college semesters to completing the entire PCT in 2022 via a SOBO/flip-flop hike, Peg Leg's determination knows no bounds. Her latest conquest, the "Bama to Baxter" journey, saw her connecting trails from Alabama to Maine, including the Pinhoti Trail, parts of the Benton Mackaye Trail, and the Appalachian Trail. But Peg Leg's thirst for exploration didn't stop there; inspired by an encounter with an ECT hiker in Vermont, she extended her trek to include the International Appalachian Trail, spanning 1500 miles across diverse landscapes. From Maine to Newfoundland, Peg Leg's footprints left a trail of resilience and passion. Currently en route from Alabama to Key West, Florida, she has become the 2nd woman in history and the 9th person ever to complete the entire Eastern Continental Trail, a testament to her unwavering spirit and love for the great outdoors. Join us as we uncover the highs, lows, and unforgettable moments of Peg Leg's awe-inspiring journey.

Ep. 1025: Alone in Wonderland - Revisited - Christine Reed

Ep. 1025: Alone in Wonderland - Revisited - Christine Reed

Originally aired on March 22, 2021
Christine’s love for backpacking started the same way many of the adventures on this podcast start, with a Google search. Her quest that day? To find out what this backpacking thing was all about.
After only a few articles into her search, Christine decided to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. It was a huge leap of faith but she immediately got to work to make that dream come true.
The funny thing about making a dream a reality is that it’s not what we typically imagine. The realness of life usually gets in the way and what actually happens before, during, and after an adventure is anything but what we plan for.
Today we’re going to hear Christine’s story of how her experience hiking the AT changed her and all the adventures that have come before and after it.
She has written her experiences in a new book after a life-altering trip on the Wonderland trail called Alone in Wonderland, which can be found at her website, aloneinwonderland.com
