#55: But first, Coffee with Pete Mann

#55: But first, Coffee with Pete Mann

Geography teacher turned coffee connoisseur, Pete Mann is best known for his cafe Octeine. Leaving teaching behind to turn his love of coffee into a business in 2018, Pete caught the coffee bug working as a part-time barista and took a roasting course - the rest is history! Pete had a clear idea of the coffee Octeine would serve at its café: a roast profile with an intense flavour designed to cut through milk and still taste great as a black coffee. But there were other requirements Pete wanted to meet; in founding Octeine, he wanted to create a brand with clear environmental and sustainable goals. He talks us through what building the brand looked like, how he has stayed true to his values and the realities of growing a business. When he's not roasting coffee, running or surfing he's recording his podcast "Humbled the series" with friend Michael (who has also been a guest on Digi-Talks) where the pair dive deep into how tribulations can transform into triumphs and how a few life blows aren’t necessarily complete woes.

#53: Quality over Quantity with Will & Charlie

#53: Quality over Quantity with Will & Charlie

Just a couple of guys with a shared passion; although Charlie Hender and Will Swale’s occupations looked a little different prior to founding ORTCO in 2016. After releasing their first swim line in 2018, they very quickly knew they were on to something and went all in on the brand.

The label is an amalgamation of the pair’s mutual admiration of classic, quality design and a vision to create everlasting pieces. Initially the brand was a gifting brand, something they could give to their friends and Dads - we can all agree it has evolved to be so much more than that. We talk through how their approach to marketing has evolved with the brand, they get real about some business lessons they have learnt along the way and share their approach to content in 2023.
