    The Matthew Project, Part 8 - Do Not Fear Them

    The Gospel of Matthew was written by an eye-witness of Jesus the Christ - what He did, what He taught, the miracles He performed, the lives He transformed, and how people responded to Him. It was originally written to Jews who were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of their promised anointed Messiah. After being with Jesus for nearly three years in which the 12 disciples heard what Jesus preached and saw the miracles He performed, Christ commissioned His disciples to go out in pairs and do likewise. But He also warned them that ultimately the day would come when they would be persecuted for no other reason than they were His disciples. But Jesus gives His original disciples reasons to not fear those who oppose them. We can also be confident that ultimately, we too have no reason to fear our opponents either.     The Matthew Project, Part 7 - Christ's His Followers About the Coming Persecution

    The Gospel of Matthew was written by an eye-witness of Jesus the Christ - what He did, what He taught, the miracles He performed, the lives He transformed, and how people responded to Him. It was originally written to Jews who were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of their promised anointed Messiah. After being with Jesus for nearly three years in which the 12 disciples heard what Jesus preached and saw the miracles He performed, Christ commissioned His disciples to go out in pairs and do likewise. But He also warned them that ultimately the day would come when they would be persecuted for no other reason than they were His disciples. Christ's warnings about the inevitability of persecution teaches us several truths: (1) Persecution is spiritually motivated by evil forces. (2) It's not about you, it's about the devilish enemy's hatred of Christ and therefore His servants. (3) Persecution is not logical, fair, or rational. (4) What Christ expects of His disciples when they are being persecuted is courageous faithfulness - which Christ Himself modelled to them.     The Matthew Project, Part 6 - Christ's Commissioning of His 12 Disciples

    The Gospel of Matthew was written by an eye-witness of Jesus the Christ - what He did, what He taught, the miracles He performed, the lives He transformed, and how people responded to Him. It was originally written to Jews who were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of their promised anointed Messiah. In Matthew 10, Christ commissions His disciples to minister with His authority to cast out demons, heal the sick and proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand. The selection of His 12 disciples corresponds to the Old Covenant's selection of 12 tribes of Israel and it marks Christ announcing that He was constituting a "new Israel" that was not based on ancestry - but on a connection with Him. Of the 12 disciples that are named, only 3 will feature into the Book of Acts. This highlights that Christ was not calling His disciples to fame, but to faithfulness.     The Matthew Project, Part 5 - Christ's Elevation of Women as a Major Theme of this Gospel

    The Gospel of Matthew is the first Book in the New Testament. It builds on the Old Testament which finishes in the Christian bible with Malachi's prophecy about the hope of the physical coming of the Lord into His Temple. Malachi also prophesied that one would precede the coming of the LORD who also come in the spirit of Elijah. Jesus tells His disciples that this was John the Baptist. In this episode we explore how Jesus elevated the status of women, and used very strong language to rebuke men for how they had been treating those women whom God had charged them to care for.
