After All: A Mary Tyler Moore Podcast

Oops! I’m surprised you didn’t dig deeper into 60s TV & bring up “Julia”, a ground-breaking, Emmy Award-winning show starring beautiful African -American singer/actor, Diahann Carrol. It premiered in 1968 & ran for 3 years. “Julia” is a widowed nurse with a 5-year old boy ( Marc Copage) working in a hospital. It was a situation comedy but many of her problems were typical for single, working mothers. She was the FIRST in many ways! I was not a sit-com watcher during these years; I was living with my parents, attending junior college in No. Cal, working part-time & immersed into my classes, boys & protesting US involvement in Vietnam War. When I did watch TV, my fave shows were “ Laugh-in”, “Carol Burnett” & “ The Smothers Brothers”. I did enjoy MTM Show when it came on, though, & loved the character, cast & writing. A few years later, I was a SFSU drama major & had my apt. in SF, living the dream!

If you’re a fan of The Mary Tyler Moore Show you will be incredibly disappointed listening this this podcast. In my personal opinion I don’t see the point of why these two bitter, narcissistic and angry people would spend the time recording a podcast on this iconic show. The MTM show is certainly of it’s time and deserves to be called out at times for its sexism and portrayal of women however there is also a depth and complexity that this podcast ignores. The anger and their sad personal commentary projected onto this TV show makes listening to this podcast painful…. we get it, you don’t like The Mary Tyler Moore show :)

Maybe my favorite tv show of all time. To hear the theme song makes me tear up. Thanks fir bottling this in a podcast
