THE TUNE'd IN PODCAST EP. 83 "COMEDY LEGACY" FT PAIGE BRYAN

Welcome to The Tune'd In Podcast!!!!! (Formerly Known as Dussé & Backwoods) I'm your host TUNDEEEEEE!! Aka Chocolate Papí aka TunGotJokes Twitter/IG/TikTok: @Tungotjokes Special Guest: PAIGE BRYAN On this episode of TIP, we sit down with Comedian, Actress and former Musician Paige Bryan. We first start off our conversation talking with Paige about her upbringing and what it was like growing up in the San Fernando Valley. From how it was difficult for her to fit into her environment, to then at the time her and her family being one of the only black families in a predominantly white neighborhood. Paige expressed that even though she grew up in the valley, she would spend most of her time in Ladera Heights with her black friends and would find herself at the Fox Hills Mall almost every weekend due to the fact that majority of her friends lived in LA. We talked about how growing up in the valley was a privilege for her that she was aware of, but even though she was more fortunate to be away from the struggles of inner city Los Angeles, LA culture has away of influencing all the natives who lived in neighboring areas outside of the city. Now for Paige, her life was a bit more interesting than the average valley girl, due to the fact she is the daughter of a very famous, well-respected and legendary Comedian by the name of "Sinbad". With her being the daughter of such an iconic and glorified celebrity, we tried to gather what her experience was growing up with him as her father and what sense of normalcy she had. Paige went on to express to us that, she had a regular upbringing as far as she knew it, because her father had been famous all her life so the things that transpired for her were regular until she was older and made aware of the difference between her fathers status in society, compared to other peoples parents. But she also reiterated that, being from the valley or LA in general, allows the natives to have a nonchalant demeanor when it comes to celebrities because its kind of a normal thing to either know someone who is famous, or be related to someone who is famous due to the overwhelming amount of people who are actually celebrities in LA. We go one to discuss that because of who her father was, it was difficult for her to make genuine friends and still til this day it's difficult for her to trust people and their intentions due to the fact that people can just be opportunist and only want to get close to her for a upgrade in their own social status. We later switch gears to discuss how she also comes from a musical background as well as a comedic one. She explains that not only was her father a musician, but both her parents were very active in the church as well as her grandfather being a pastor, which allowed her to explore here musical and creative talents through praise and worship. Although music was Paige's first love, it was comedy that eventually stole her heart and gave her a different passion and desire for entertainment. Paige goes on to explain how her comedy journey hasn't been easy despite the reputation of her father. According to Paige, she says she is constantly prejudged and assumed to have everything set out for her and is given the easy route to success due to others assumption of nepotism. But Paige goes on record to let it be known that she doesn't use her fathers name as a crutch for her to skip the line or avoid criticism, as she choices to step into rooms as herself and build a name and brand strictly off her talent and hard work alone. Like usual, our listeners are definitely in for a treat, and like alway this is one you do not want to miss! So sit back and enjoy the crazy world of The Tune’d In Podcast. Yay! Yay!

Jasmyn later goes on to tell us what it was like growing up in Cleveland for her as a child with her siblings. She describes her childhood to be very happy and peaceful, and her and her two brothers and one sister would go outside and play like normal kids, and the community she grew up in was very hands on. In the sense that everyone knew each other and the police knew all the kids and people in the neighborhood, and the police would even wave at the kids playing outside as they drove by. Jasmyn later goes on to tell us how things started to drastically change in Cleveland as violence and crime started to rise due to lack of opportunities and resources. We then fast forward a bit in her journey to talk about her comedy career and how that got started. Jasmyn tells us that everyone in her family is funny, and her being funny and gradually doing stand up comedy wasn't really a surprise to many people because she was naturally gifted and she came from a family full of funny people. Jasmyn let us know that in her 10 years as a professional comedian, before she moved to LA, she had accomplished a bunch of things in comedy in the Midwest early in her career. Such things as: touring and opening up for major headlining comedians, winning numerous comedy competitions, being a regular host at The Cleveland Improv and performing regularly at The Laugh Factory in Chicago. We switch gears with our conversation and after the smoke break Tun gets into a more serious conversation. Tun mentions that Jasmyn as a certain joke, in which she talks about calling the suicide hotline because she was considering killing herself. But the only problem about that joke is that it was a real life event in which Jas walked us through what happened in her life that lead up to that particular moment that changed her life forever. THE TUNE'd IN PODCAST EP. 81 "A MAN WITH MOTION" FT (MALIK B)

Welcome to The Tune'd In Podcast!!!!! (Formerly Known as Dussé & Backwoods) I'm your host TUNDEEEEEE!! Aka Chocolate Papí aka TunGotJokes Twitter/IG/TikTok: @Tungotjokes Special Guest: MALIK B On this episode of TIP, we still down with Comedian, Actor and Social Media Content Creator, Malik B. We start our conversation with Malik first addressing the pronunciation of name, which is constantly mistaken for "Maleek". Malik goes on to example how his name is Arabic and it means "King", so he takes pride in letting people know the correct pronunciation of his name. We then start to discuss what it was like growing up for him in LA, and how having both of his parents in his life and a strong relationship with his father helped mold him into the man he is today. Malik later tells us that he was acting and doing commercials as a young kid due to his mothers encouragement, but it was his father putting him in boxing, were he feel in love with the sport of boxing. Malik let us know that he was actually a really good boxer, to the point he found himself in Vegas training at Floyd Mayweather gym and even eventually sparring with Mayweather. Little did Malik know that his love for boxing would end up having him meeting Micheal B. Jordan in the boxing gym one day, and eventually have him be the inspiration for his character in the hit movie "CREED". Malik talks about how his first time acting in a movie was a major motion picture with huge movie stars and it was an experience of a life time. Malik let us know that he wasn't even supposed to be in the movie, but after a bet with Micheal B. Jordan, stating that if he beat up the best boxer in the gym, they would write a part for him in the movie. And without any hesitation, Malik beat the hell out of the best boxer in the gym, and the rest was history. That opportunity lead to a domino effect of events that ended up landing him another major role in a Netflix original film called "Burning Sand". After that movie, Malik was forced to face the harsh reality of Hollywood, which is the fact that one minute you can be "booked and busy" and the next your career can be at a complete stand still. So unfortunately for Malik, the movie auditions stopped after awhile and he had to figure out what his next move was going to be. Malik said that is was really a blessing from God for him to transition to his new career of comedy because he was always the one on the movie set making everyone laugh. So one day he saw a Stand Up Comedian class by the late Comedian David Arnold that was being held in LA and decided to join. After a few weeks of the class and getting up and finally performing a stand upset, Malik fell in love with the craft and his comedy journey began. Like usual, our listeners are definitely in for a treat, and like alway this is one you do not want to miss! So sit back and enjoy the crazy world of The Tune’d In Podcast. Yay! Yay!
