RUDE X DJL Season 2 - Episode 1 - Nothing To Hide
In this episode, we talk to Brenda McPhail, the Director of Privacy, Technology & Surveillance Project at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and Franz Voltaire, an award-winning Haitian human rights activist & academic, and the founder of the Human Rights Film Festival in Montréal. Privacy, as we've come to learn, is not about keeping secrets: it's about social and political control. We want to know what 'tech for the people' looks like, and how we can stay connected without the eavesdropping, snitching, and behavioural mapping of our lives. In this digital reboot of social justice, we ask our listeners to think-twice about the systemic consequences of unethical software. Join RUDE as we navigate along the many twists & turns of the new tech frontier.

RUDE X DJL Season 2 - Episode 2 - No New Problems
In this episode, RUDE connects with DESMOND COLE, reknown journalist and anti-black racism activist from Toronto and SUNIL GURMUKH, counsel at the Ontario Human Rights Commission who focuses on racial profiling. The episode delves into the messy world of smart cities and the effects of uninhibited surveillance in our public spaces. It explores the role of democracy and its changing nature in a tech-dominated reality. We question our guests and listeners about the consequences of this surveillance on individual well-being, community cohesion, and trust. And then, we get concrete and aim to figure out what we can all do about it. Come find out and join the RUDE community.

RUDE - Pilot Season - Episode 4 - Allyship...WTF?
This episode looks at allyship... is it even a thing?
Social justice work comes with its big wins, but it’s also a helluva lot of gruelling, isolating, and exhausting work.

Customer Reviews
Best public discourse I’ve heard in a long time
Super thought provoking, well researched coverage of today’s top issues. More people should be subscribed to RUDE and engaging in these discussions!! They provide a unique perspective you don’t often hear elsewhere because they are doing the hard work of challenging our norms
Crucial and timely!
This podcast is necessary right now given the current state of affairs across the globe. I love the conversations, interviews and stories!
Pushing back, indeed!
I listen to a lot of podcasts, and RUDE is definitely among my top picks. 🔥🔥 It’s so refreshing to hear the legitimate voices of our generation (sorry Lena Dunham, not you!) talking about lived experiences of pushing back against the oppressive forces in society. The fact it’s Canada focused discussion, yet has international reach makes it so much better — the kind of content sorely lacking. Looking forward to their upcoming seasons. ⚡️
