Devotional 141: Psalm 139 - Our Darkness; His Truth

Psalm 139 displays our interaction through prayer and the necessity of the dark time for the Christian life. David shows us how to struggle with the nature of the Almighty, the wonderful, uplifting results of drawing close to the God of the universe, and the Savior, the cornerstone rejected,, and His comforts to our hearts, minds, and souls. Contemplating the nature of God and our distresses in the dark times, when we bring them to God, lifts our souls. “O Lord, Thou hast searched me and known me. 2 Thou dost know when I sit down and when I rise up; Thou dost understand my thought from afar. 3 Thou dost scrutinize my path and my lying down, And art intimately acquainted with all my ways. 4 Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, Thou dost know it all. 5 Thou hast enclosed me behind and before, And laid Thy hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.” Calm 139:1-6 “Where can I go from Thy Spirit? Or where can I flee from Thy presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, Thou art there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, Thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, 10 Even there Thy hand will lead me, And Thy right hand will lay hold of me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,” 12 Even the darkness is not dark to Thee, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to Thee. 13 For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:7-14 “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.” Psalm 139:23-24 Our So What? Throw yourself on the stone who knows rejection and darkness; He is the one who said: “My God, why hast Thou forsaken me?” Being broken on the Stone at the foot of the cross is the most precious place in the universe; seek Him, seek Him in sincere community, listening and speaking to the Stone of our salvation. Devotional 140 Worshiping The True God.

Our devotional today is from Jeremiah. Meditating on this passage not only gives us a lesson in adoration, but informs us of the attributes of the Holy God of the universe. Many look at God as a character in the image of mankind, but stirring passages like Jeremiah 32:16-22 remind us just how majestic He is in His name, in all the earth! “After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, then I prayed to the LORD, saying, 17 ‘Ah Lord GOD! Behold, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power and by Thine outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for Thee, 18 who showest lovingkindness to thousands, but repayest the iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their children after them, O great and mighty God. The LORD of hosts is His name; 19 great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, giving to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds; 20 who hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and even to this day both in Israel and among mankind; and Thou hast made a name for Thyself, as at this day. 21 ‘And Thou didst bring Thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders, and with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror; 22 and gavest them this land, which Thou didst swear to their forefathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey. Jeremiah 32:16-22 Our So What? for today: Take this passage read it over and over, and meditate on the passage, digest it, give the worship some time in your mind. Perhaps you may apply His majesty in your own relationship with Him. apply to your own life. God is All-powerful in verse 17 Loving verse 18 a Justice verse 18 b King of all creation 18 c Wise and all-knowing verse 19 compassionate v 21: God of integrity v 22 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Devotional 139 They Ran; We Pray

I like stories; true stories are the best and can inspire us in our Christian walk. Today, we take a high-level overview of the Battle of Marathon. From this battle, the Athenian hoplites used a two-word flex, “I ran.” As children of God, we don’t flex, but we do greatly rejoice at every instance of redemption. We also note that once we suit up in the full armor of God, we pray: “Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, 15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. 17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,” Ephesians 6:13-18 We highlight Charles Haddon Spurgeon: Charles Haddon Spurgeon: “No young mother ever rejoiced so much over her first-born child - no warrior was so exultant over a hard won victory. Oh the joy of knowing tat a sinner once at enmity has been reconciled to God by the Holy Spirit, through the words spoken by our feeble lips.” Our So What? Together, let's commit not to “I. Ran.” But “I Prayed” “No young mother ever rejoiced so much over her first-born child - no warrior was so exultant over a hard won victory. Oh the joy of knowing that a sinner once at enmity has been reconciled to God by the Holy Spirit, through the words spoken by our feeble prayers.” (Modified) Donation link: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=G9JGGR5W97D64 Or go to www.freerangepreacheronprayer.com and use the Donations tab. Jesus and His Disciples - Conversation and Prayer. 015 - An Astonishing Conversation - Disciples New Focus

Astonishing Conversation - Disciples New Focus This episode we. Finish the astonishing conversation in John 4. Jesus focuses the disciples on their intended mission. As He did with the Samaritan woman, He diverts their attention from the physical to the spiritual. His food is to do the will of the Father, and He calls them. “I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.” John 4:38 The Holy Spirit moves Paul to detail our calling in 2 Corinthians 5. “I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.” Our So What? In the simplest form, have some soul you care for that you are committed to pray for consistently that they become part of the harvest, reconciled to God. Even simpler, no matter where you are in your striving with God, for His will, have someone you are interceding for to be reconciled to God. The meat of the episode ends at the 15:51 mark, and then we talk about the next few week and some changes in our tech, while introducing you to my friend Jesse. At the 19.08 mark, we discuss Ireland in relation to the Free Range Preacher on Prayer, including our excitement over the Spirit’s moving in the lives of our brothers and sisters there, and that I can bang on, but not pronounce bodhran! Jesus Teaches Prayer - Forgiveness: God is Serious

In my culture, forgiveness and its importance grow every day. This episode is a repeat of our episode on forgiveness. This episode was well received, and as you will hear, praying that 2023 will be a year of Jubilee and Forgiveness, and revisiting just how serious God is about His children forgiving as we have been forgiven, seems like a good idea. Thank You, Jesus! The host is weak, faltering, and wholly inadequate for the task, but the word of God is none of those. The call for the children of God to forgive is serious, and the Bible uses: Serious Command as witnessed by: Commands Matthew 6:14 Mark 11:25 Allusions: Matthew 5:43-45 Philippians 2:3ff Exhortations: Ephesians 4:29-32 Romans 13 Serious Discipline: David was disciplined through Embarrassment; 2 Samuel 2:12 Physical Pain: Psalm 32 & 38 The regret of others paying for his sins: 2 Samuel 24:17 We have only updated the introduction. Devotional 138 Mary’s Wonderful Practice

Mary would one day need to be strengthened to the limits of our comprehension as she watched her son die a most Ignominious death. In the eyes of man, Jesus died in pain and shame. For our souls. At some point, it became her practice to strengthen herself for this sorrow. “But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.” Luke 2:19 “And He went down with them, and came to Nazareth; and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart.” Luke 2:51 It is a long-held practice of mine to follow her example; my daughter is my “Daughter of Strength,” I witness God’s wonder and faithfulness every time I look at her and remember her growing up. My son is my “Son of Promise.” Every time discouragement threatened to overtake me, I would look at him and take courage. There is a list in my prayer book, a memorial list of people with similar titles, including some who I haven’t had contact with in 40 years. Our So What? Treasure those people in your life who’ve influenced, stretched, made you better, or exhorted you to a closer walk with the Lord, your Savior, Creator, and Sustainer. Brethren, let’s pray for one another. “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.” Amen 1 Timothy 1:17 ”What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more."
