    5.23 Vayakhel – Poroh 5785

    1)     Siyum on Rambam Sefer haMada: 2)    Guidelines to setting up Communal Sedorim for 1st night Seder:[1] 3)    On Shabbos Erev Pesach, if I eat chometz in one location and continue eating in a second location, where should I bentch? [2] 4)    May one eat Kitniyos on Erev Pesach?[3] 5)    Poreis Mapoh and making Kiddush during the 7th hour:[4] 6)    On Shabbos, may one dress a toddler with an extra Pamper before going out somewhere, to be handyfor when the child will need to be changed?[5] 7)    The Alter Rebbe is emphatic about the Head-Tefillin being centered. I first used a  mirror, but then checked with a stick; my Tefillin were off-centre. What should I do?[6] 8)    Regarding סעודה שלישית, the Alter Rebbe doesn’t address what one does if shkiah came and one didn't yet eat. (סי' קעח ס"א). לכן נראים ב' אפשרויות: א) לברך בהמ"זב'חדר חמץ' ואחר היסח הדעת, לאכול שאר מאכלות; ב) בגמר שאר המאכלים, לחזור ל'חדרחמץ' לבהמ"ז. [3] פסקי תשובות סי' תנג:ד. [4] ראה עולת שבת סימן רעא.     1)     Need we have meat for our Purim meal?[1] 2)    Does a Kohen under BarMitzva join the adults for BirchasKohanim?[2] 3)    Is there Torah guidance re. putting a pet to sleep due to its frail condition?[3] 4)    May I put cold water in an electric urn just before Shabbos?[4] 5)    A Kohen shouldn’t marry a woman whose mother is Jewish but her fatherisn’t. If they did get married they don’t have to separate. Does the ‘defect’ carry over to the next generation, i.e. may a Kohen marry their daughter?[5] 6)    In the Chabad Siddur there are several instances where an alternative version [נ״א] is brought, e.g. לא תסור or אל תסיר in Maariv. Why are those versions quoted?[6] 7)    In the Shiroh, is the word Tzolalu or Tzolelu?[7] 8)    A woman washed her hands for Netilas Yodayim andrealized afterwards that she hadn’t removed her wedding ring. Does she need to wash again? With a brocho?[8] 9)    A Barmitzvah boy has prepared – in error – part of a parsha that is the week before he turns thirteen.     1)     There’s a new Tefilin-protector on themarket. Is it appropriate for Minhag Chabad?[1] 2)    May cold food be placed in a warming-cupboard on Shabbos?[2] 3)    What would be the equivalent of a blech in order to permit returning hot food back into our ovens?[3] 4)    I’m visiting a community on Purim. The local Rabbi has organized Mishloach Monos from family to family. Is there value in me bringing a single package of Mishloach Monos to be passed around: A gives the package to B, Bgives the package to C etc.?[4] 5)    What is the brocho for onion-rings that are coated with crumbs?[5] 6)    May one eat food that was taken into a WC, or food that was touched by one who exited the WC but hadn’t yet washed his/her hands?[6] 7)    I sold a house to another Jew. We agreed a time-frame. The lawyer included a penalty for delays. Evidently the penalty increases the longer the delay. They are notShomer Shabbat. Are we allowed to use their services?[8] 9)    I regularly visit patients in hospitals. I’ve been told that one shouldn’t water that was in a house – or in the immediate neighbouring houses – when a person had passed away. [10] בס' תפלת ישראל הנ"ל מדובר על כינוי שאינו נקרא בולתורה. ועצ"ע לענין שם דובער, אם לומר פסוק אחד או שנים. ומזה שהרבי האריךבענין ההרכב בכתב ולא אמר שיש נפק"מ לנדו"ד, משמע שצ"ל ב' פסוקים.והכי מסתבר לענ"ד.

    1)     Many Sidurim have a list of verses corresponding to people’s names, to be recited before stepping back at the end of the Shmone Esrei. I found some of those verses to be difficult for my younger pupils. Can I recommend a simpler verse instead?[1] 2)    Is playing football on Shabbos permitted?[2] 3)    A non-frum Jew kindly lent money to my Beis Chabad, but he wrote the cheque on Shabbos. May I deposit the cheque?[3] 4)    Why does Chabad not say א-ל מלך נאמן before Shema?[4] 5)    Following on from discussion about the issue of Nolad in making whip-cream on Shabbos; may one make soda-water on Shabbos?[5] 6)    When visiting small communities ahead of Purim, should I read theMegila for them?[6] 7)    I ate a meaty supper. I then saw a tasty bun, said the brocho, and was then alerted that the bun is milky. May I eat a drop of the bun in order to avoid a brocho in vain?[7] 8)    Is there value in saying Birkas haMozon in Hebrew from a transliterated text?[8] 9)    I share an office with a non-Jew. On a recent vacation trip to Egypt, he picked up some antique artefacts and has displayed them in our office. May I pray in that office?[9] 10)  Feedback on saying Tehilim on the eve of Shabbos Mevorchim:[10] [1] במאמר הר' ישראל חיים שטעסל (מח"ס שיח תפלה, ונספח לסידור 'תפלת ישראל, י. קרויס, תשע"ד, ע' רלא) מוכיח שיש להעדיף פסוקים אלו דוקא. [2] דיון מדין מוקצה – בשו"ע סי' שח סמ"ה ובשוע"ר שם ספ"ג. ואילו בסי' שלח ס"ו חשש להשוויית גומות. ונ"ל דשם מיירי במשחק גולות וכיו"ב. [3] איסור מעשה שבת (בר"ס שיח) לאחרים רק עד מוצ"ש, אף למי שבישל בשבילם. וש"נ לסי' תקג סי"ב שהתבשיל אסור לכל אנשי ביתו לעולם. ויל"ח בין שבת דחמירא בעיני אינשי, משא"כ יו"ט, ולכך החמירו שם. [4] דבר זה הובא בשוע"ר סי' סא ס"ד. ובהע' צויין לתקוני זהר. ב'סדור' הורה להכפיל התיבות "'אה"א'. בס' דרכי חיים ושלום (אות קמג) מביא מהאשכול והרמב"ן שאמירת 'א-ל מלך נאמן' הוי' עניית אמן על ברכת עצמו, דהוי מגונה (לבד מ'בונה ירושלים'). אכן בזמנים עברו היה הש"ץ מברך בקול ברכות קר"ש, והקהל ענו 'אמן'. או שענו 'א-ל מלך נאמן'. אבל מי שמברך בעצמו 'אהבת עולם' אין לו לומר 'א-ל מלך נאמן'. ולהעיר ממנהגנו (ספר המנהגים ע' 11) שהש"ץ מסיים ברכת 'אהבת עולם' בלחש – מחשש הפסק ב'אמן'. אע"פ שיש דעות בראשונים לענות שם אמן על ברכת עצמו.
