第一個單元介紹故宮正在展出的「看得見的紅樓夢」展，策展人認真比對小說中的各類物件，選擇故宮典藏文物中的相似文物，讓大家一飽眼福，想像一下賈府中的繁華風景。這些物件代表清朝權貴階級才能擁有的豪奢與極致品味，但其實也訴說了小說中人物的性格、命運，以及繁華過後的蒼涼。
