The Tenant Association
The Tenant Association is about tenants who came together and fought back against their landlord. It’s a story about neighbors; elderly, young, immigrant, working class renters. Many of them are Latino and Asian and had lived for decades in an apartment complex in LA’s Chinatown, until they got a rent increase that was basically an eviction notice… and decided to fight to stay in their homes. They’ve become a political force to be reckoned with, and changed what we think is possible for renters in Los Angeles. The tenants of Hillside Villa have been fighting for six years, and they’re not done. This is the story of the Hillside Villa Tenant Association, from Los Angeles Public Press.
LA Public Press Rocks!

The Tenant Association is one of the most consequential stories being covered this year! I love the local focus on underrepresented voices. LA Public Press demystifies so much of LA’s convoluted politics and makes it easier for everyday people to understand what’s happening.
Really good investigative journalism

A great show. They did a great job looking into housing issues in Los Angeles, trends of gentrification, eminent domain, and just covering local issues that a lot of larger news groups miss.
Great Podcast

Telling the story of the Tenants Association is on point. I really love these episodes and always looking forward to the next one. The best part for me is the factual information shared and flow of the episodes.
Extremely worth while!!

Episode 1 was very engaging. Fascinating to learn about what’s going in LA between greedy landlords and long term tenants. Looking forward to the rest of the episodes!
