Sometimes Love Isn't Enough: The Parenting Through Challenges Podcast

Angie Grandt

Sometimes Love Isn't Enough: The Parenting Through Challenges Podcast - A practical yet heartfelt podcast for parents who are overwhelmed by unique challenges in parenting. Join Angie Grandt – Generational Healing Specialist – as she leads you on a journey to rebuild a relationship with your child – you know – the one who you promised to love unconditionally, but who keeps pushing you away and displaying such unsettling behaviors, and now you find you are so easily triggered by all their behaviors and can't seem to find joy in your relationship? Yeah, that relationship. I know right where you are because I've been there too. With my bio child, I felt like I was doing pretty great! I could handle any challenges thrown my way, kept my cool, and was fully present and engaged in our relationship. As an adoptive mom however, I gave all of my time, my love, and my energy to my son in a desperate attempt to help heal his trauma. It didn't work. In fact, our relationship became so strained, and it showed in behaviors. As our relationships was falling apart, my resent, fear, frustration, and regret grew. I was desperately trying to help, and sacrificing my own happiness and other important relationships along the way. I felt like such a failure as a mom - why couldn't I figure this out? Sometimes love isn't enough. When it comes to raising kids from trauma and disrupted attachment, the truth is that all too often, you need unconditional love paired with key mindset tools, energetic psychology, and Human Design to help you keep your head in the game – in the trickiest times (aka when your child needs you the MOST!). The same can be true for our bio kids too - sometimes there's a glitch in our ability to connect - we become easily frustrated with their behaviors and as a result feel like we are failing in the parenting game. This is where a trauma-focused Human Design coach comes in! What I didn't know then… I had the right tools inside me all along (although I needed a coach to help me see them! As my coach will say, "we can't see the end of our own nose!"). The solution to our relationship wasn't in another book, podcast (yes, I get the irony here!), therapist, teacher, etc. The solution was in me – learning to use strategies like respond vs react and key mindset tools to tap into my strengths, and shift my mindset. I also now see how we are each so uniquely, and perfectly, designed to parent our kids - we have simply forgotten how to tap into our inner guidance to do what's right for us, so we can in turn, do what's right for them. I am on a mission to help parents to access the right tools to rebuild their relationship, tackle behaviors, and work on building connection again – for one of THE MOST important relationships in their life. 102. From Defiance to Connection: A Trauma-Informed Parenting Shift

When your child refuses, argues, ignores, melts down, or pushes back, it's easy to label it as defiance. But what if that behavior isn't about power… and isn't personal? In this episode, let's unpack what's really happening underneath "defiant" behavior and why most kids who look oppositional are actually dysregulated, overstimulated, or lacking the skills to communicate what they need. You'll learn how nervous system overwhelm, sensory load, unmet needs, and misaligned expectations show up as backtalk, shutdown, avoidance, and explosive reactions—and what to do instead of escalating the power struggle. This episode shifts the lens from control to connection and gives you practical ways to respond that build regulation, resilience, and trust. 🔍 In This Episode, We Explore: Why "defiance" is usually a stress response, not a character flaw The difference between can't and won't (and why it matters) How nervous system overload shows up as arguing, ignoring, or meltdowns The hidden role of sensory overwhelm and transitions Why traditional consequences often escalate behavior instead of improving it What power struggles are really telling you How to spot when your child is outside their regulation window The importance of co-regulation before correction How your own regulation changes your child's behavior faster than any strategy A Human Design lens: why some kids push back when they feel controlled 🛠 Practical Takeaways for Parents 1. Regulate first, teach second. You cannot reason with a dysregulated brain—yours or theirs. 2. Look for overload signals. Watch for hunger, fatigue, transitions, noise, social exhaustion, or demand stacking. 3. Reduce before you correct. Lower the demand, offer connection, then revisit the expectation later. 4. Shift from control to collaboration. Power struggles decrease when kids feel some agency. 5. Repair after the rupture. Connection after conflict is what builds long-term behavior change. 🧠 Reframe to Remember Your child isn't giving you a hard time. They're having a hard time. 🌱 Resources & Next Steps If you want to understand what your child actually needs—energetically, emotionally, and developmentally—grab their free Human Design chart and report on my website. 100. Beyond Behavior: How Human Design Helps You Truly See Your Child

If you've ever caught yourself asking "Why is my kid like this?!"—this episode is for you. In this deeply practical and insightful solo episode, Angie unpacks how Human Design can offer real answers to the parenting questions that leave us feeling lost, frustrated, or reactive. Through real-world stories—like a toilet-diving toddler, a shock-seeking adolescent, a sensitive Reflector child, and a projector mom with generator kids—Angie shows how understanding your child's energetic blueprint allows you to lead, respond, and parent with clarity. Human Design isn't a parenting hack—it's a parenting lens. One that finally gives language to what you've always felt but didn't know how to explain. 🔍 In This Episode, We Explore: Why "knowing your kid" is the strategy—and Human Design is the roadmap What a Manifesting Generator 3/5 toddler teaches us about creative flow (yes, even when it involves toilet water) How the Gate of Shock plays out in a teen trying to find his voice—and how to empower it without chaos What makes parenting a Reflector child so tricky (and so beautiful) Why parenting through your own lens often creates conflict—and how to shift into parenting through theirs The tension of being a 1/3 Projector mom with two 5/1 kids, and how profile awareness helps everyone breathe easier The role of energetic compatibility, resilience, and real regulation in helping our kids thrive How your own conditioning may be blocking your intuition—and how to tap back in 💬 Angie's Takeaway: The more we understand our kids' design, the more we can respond instead of react. And the more seen they feel, the more resilient they become. Want to get started? Grab your child's chart and free Human Design report at AngieGrandt.com.

    96. A friend's story

In this episode, I share my perspective on the unexpected evolution of a friend. I was asked to record an advanced Human Desing reading for my mentor's program, so I offered her a free Human Design reading.  It's not my first time doing a reading... it's part of my coaching practice, and I regularly share insights with others about what I see in their chart.  But this time was different. She was ready. She was on the cusp of outgrowing her old story, and perhaps terrified of the unknown of the next story. But she was ready.  I'd love your thoughts on this episode, and I'd love to help you too. When you're ready, I'm here. In this raw and relatable episode, Angie dives into one of the sneakiest stressors in parenting: perfectionism. From the impossible expectations we place on ourselves to the shame spiral that follows when we "mess up," this conversation unpacks why perfectionism thrives in modern parenting—and how to begin breaking free.
